Not Euros

Postby Card Detective » Dec 12th, '08, 22:35

Unfortunately I have just discovered that it is not possible to bend one, two euro coins and fifty cent euro pieces.
Has anyone managed to change the physical structure of the gimmik.
I am thinking of doing so but I am affraid it might brake.
Is the fake brittle?

Having seen Agecroft perform this on a barman at Kro2 at a Manchester meet moons ago (so far the only one I've gone to!), Coinvexed was on my wishlist for a long time. I've not branched out into coin magic, due to pure laziness and putting my eggs in the card magic basket, which is currently overflowing with that many eggs that other avid card magic basket afficionados would suggest at least some diversification into the coin basket.

I'm really a hobbyist with one paid corporate gig I blagged to look forward to in September so really this was a big purchase for me. I've only showcased it a few times, and the first time i showcased it to my girlfriend it was more lacklustre as presentation-wise little thought was put into it. In summary the effect carried little beating of the presentation drum and the outcome was [simply] a coin being bent. Impressive per se, but lacking in that X Factor.

However, since playing on Harry Guiness' plot in the Reality Is Plastic supplement, I've found that the additional misdirection makes my routine as smooth as Michael Jackson in the Smooth Criminal video, as well as giving a presentational hook and and premise.

I just wanted to sing an ode to Coinvexed. It's certainly inspired me to branch out into more coin magic effects, but I relish the idea of pure sleight of hand to balance the gimmicry of Coinvexed, thus restoring balance to personal satisfaction and the age old axiom that hard work is satisfying.

Ode: la la la la laaaaa....

I picked this up off eBay a few days ago for an absolutely criminal price. Think this thread has pretty much secured its reputation, but I nonetheless look forward to sounding off in here after I've had some time to play with it.

Hmmm i did notice one knocking about on eBay for £12... very envious of that price considering what I paid...

As with my best effects I perform it took a while to really hone it to develop the Oh My God reactions... (or maybe I just get too excited and show it initially before really thinking about it).

I think I bought Bobo's Modern Coin Magic off the same seller selling Coinvexed for an equally good price methinks.

Madvillainy, this is THE one... you'll have many adventures with this I'm sure.

Aye, £12.50 I got it for. Criminal really. Even if I eventually pay full whack for an upgrade pack for Coinvexed 2, I haven't even nearly paid a fair price for that piece of kit. I was also lucky enough to see how the gimmick works beforehand, thanks to the wonders of idiots on YouTube who don't know the first thing about handling.

I've got some ideas for what I want to do with it - it sounds like a fantastic reputation maker, being able to pull a real-time coin bend out of the bag. Will have to really think about how I'm going to present it, as it's in stark contrast to a lot of what I do and I don't want this to be a "throw-away" bit.

I've been keeping an eye on some of the 'must have' new releases over the past few years and, as with most things, the prices could very well be reducing after the initial rush of interest - even if they're imports where the exchange rates are shoving costs sky high. Bear in mind that new stuff is likely to be in preparation, possibly with an eye on Blackpool as that's the time most of the new stuff is demo'd and released. Many things could very well be sold at lower prices soon so don't get paying too much, suggest you haggle and see what you can get away with  !

POST EDITED (deleted).
I had originally posted that i was sorry to hear that the above tw*t had been banned, and wished him a merry christmas. However, due to his stupid and childish remark in my direction on another thread, i have removed my original post.

Yeah, or anyone with a gram of common sense. A coin suddenly bends, and - if there's no immediate apparatus visible to perform this feat on the fly - what's the only sensible conclusion? I test-drove it at my local last night and the only thing that stemmed the accusations of a switch were the signatures. "You can't have switched it, that's my drawing" is something I must have heard every single time I did it.

Sorry though, I think I've derailed your original point - continue with your mindless trolling.

Anyway.

Yeah, coinvexed is incredible. Paid for itself last night, it did.

Coinvexed is fantastic, perhaps you weren't doing it correctly?
And madvillainy has it spot on, the signature is what stops people from accusing you of switching and makes it even more impossible

The best coin bend I've ever seen is Derren's. Since we can't all be Derren, coinvexed is a great gimmick.

However, using the old fashioned method that I do, with a pre bent coin and a switch, you can have just as brilliant effect. It all lies in the subleties and convincers. If you want a quick..wham bam..coin is bent routine, coinvexed is brilliant.

You don't always need the sig as a convincer. Do the old "mind read the year" (1992 - duh!) and then switch in the bent one. The fact that the year matches does the trick. I've always got a pre-bent 1992 10p on me somewhere.
