classic palm

Postby lukeclough » Feb 25th, '10, 22:32

hey guys,

Been practising my classic palm with a coin today and I'm really struggling. I can't seem to grip it between the muscles at the sides of the palm, and end up curling my hand down, which then makes my hand look cramped.

Any tips??

I've tried with different sizes etc but am getting grumpy now lol

try placing the coin further back into the palm (as in further back towards the base of the thumb/ the base of the 'life line' if you're into palmistry). It works for me :D

Hi Luke. The Classic P**m takes quite some work to master, so if this is the first time you have tried it its bound to feel (and look) uncomfortable and cramped. The exact spot in which the coin is held is slightly different for everyone, trial and error will dictate the best position for you. When you find your position try p***ing the coin while doing other things, watching TV, reading, whatever. Also, make sure you are placing the coin in position using the middle and 3rd finger of the p***ing hand - with no assistance from the other hand. In time you will find you can use the 'dirty hand' almost as normal, picking things up, gesturing etc.
So just stick with it, it will be well worth it :)

I was writing my response but instead I'll just say "what Jim said"

P**ming doesn't feel natural when your first learning so your hand will "look" unnatural. just keep at it - you'll find your "golden zone" on your palm and the rest will fall beautifully into place!

Keep up the practice - it's so very worth it.

:D

I know this is probably weird, but I sometimes have cards and other things palmed just in casual conversations with my friends. It means I learn to forget about it and gesture naturally whilst concealing things. Probs won't help you mastering the palm technically, but it's well worth watching natural hand positions and gestures and taking note of how you and other's hold thier hands.

get a rubber band; loop it round your thumb, over the back of your hand and round your little finger, now wear that all day.
Sorted.

It's the scaled down version of the prop that comes with E's "ultra-elite muscle pass training academy 4" DVD

Been practising my classic palm with a coin today

If its still an issue after you have been practicing yur classic palm with a coin for a year, then you might have an issue

Seriously though, there are two problems occuring.
Firstly, your obviously not allowing the coin to find the sweet spot.
This is the natural point in your palm, that an object falls to.
It may be right in the middle of your palm.
more likely or not,its a wee bit back, towards the wrist.

hold your hand palm upwards, in a relaxed a manner as possible. now look at the palm and notice where the natural hollows are, and how the muscles surround it.

this will help you identify your sweet spot.

now, ther golden rule, that you must follow is, NEVER USE THE OTHER HAND TO PUT THE COIN IN PLACE.
Alway use the finget tips of teh hand thats palming, to place the coin in palm. This way, you will find that the tips automaticaly go to that sweet spot.
Once in there, try my favorite practicing technique.
Drink a pint from a straight sided pint glass with the coin in place.

this helps the hand palm, in a relaxed position.
Also, using the mouse on your computer whilst palming helps relax the hand.

And finaly, remember that the clasic palm is not the be all and end all of coin palms, and that the finger palm, is in fact a much more usefull way of holding a coin. Practice both the classic, and the finger palms, and get used to moving the palm from one to another. This will mean you can move the hand in a natural maner, removing the claw.

oh, almost forgot..

when you put the coin into clasic, be aware that your thumb will like as not, shoot away from your hand and stick out at an odd angle.

This is something that you should work on, to stop. :)

and the biggest secret to the Classic is...

NEVER LOOK AT THE DIRTY HAND, AND FORGET THAT IT'S THERE. :)

:)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I always have a coin concealed in my hand when I use the computer. It is a brilliant way to practice. :D
