It makes me feel positively from another era to hear people talking about computerised stuff they loved "as a kid". I was out of school and working before I saw a Space Invaders machine, or touched a computer.

Ah, the good old Texas Instruments 99/4. I eventually had all the peripherals for it, which daisy-chained together in a straight line so the whole lot filled the width of the desk, and the printer had to go on a little table alongside. If it had trouble booting up, the usual fix was to loosen each connection in turn, blow on it, and tighten it again. Cabled up to a portable TV as a monitor and a cassette deck for data storage. Eventually a floppy disk drive was available, only slightly bigger than a shoebox.

Happy days.

i recently played a few spectrum games online, and quite frankly...

they're rubbish....dont go back, you'll ruin your fun memories of those "good old days"...sorry, but its true...

just started playing the new splinter cell...very good at the moment, pulling people out of windows to their doom - and shooting chandeliers down on top of your enemy...thats good fun that is...

Red Dead Redemption looks like its going to kick some sack, can't wait for it. I had the original, which wasn't as good as Gun, but the new one's multiplayer sounds like its going to be a good laugh. Startin up a cowboy posse and going hunting/cattle wrangling/gunfighting? Good times!

Is Read Dead Redemption going to be anything like Gun?

If it is then count me in

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Take Gun, increase the size of it on all levels by 10, add multiplayer free roam in possee's and incredible graphics and i think yeah, it will be a bit like Gun :D

I have got Red Dead Redemption and BOY IS IT AMAZING!

Quite a few glitches but that is expected to be honest, GTA was the same when it first came out, especially online.

I spent my first 2 hours with the game hunting coyotes and deer, its pretty damn incredible galloping along and picking off running animals.

Plus it looks incredible, although close up is not as polished as GTA but it really hasnt bothered me.

GO OUT AND BUY IT NOW!

Wish I still owned a high spec games machine, but alas my laptop is just too feeble to power many games (which is ironic because at the start of the decade I was working in the computer games industry).

However if you want to get into an appropriate mood for your gaming fest may I recommend getting a copy of 'The Burrowers', a kind of wild west horror. It is very atmospheric and I really enjoyed it.

As everyone knows, Mandy, Horace and the Spiders was far superior to both Skiing and Hungry - you betray your age with your love of naff toss like HGS.

I was also rather good at Daley's Decathlon but broke the joystick with all that frantic waggling to build up power...
