The Men Who Stare At Goats

Postby Just Steve » May 17th, '10, 17:03

Just finished watching this and thought it was brilliant.

Loved the different levels and ideologies it explored on top of the original story.

Not sure how much i understood though, and whether or not it persuaded me.

However, it was very entertaining, for those of you who have seen it, what did you make of it?

Loved the book, didn't care for the film. If you liked the film, you will think the book is the best thing ever! It's one of my all-time faves.

I started a thread about it somewhere...

I went to book this with LoveFilm but I got distracted by a new Bettie Page DVD. I don't care if it only has 2 stars, it's Bettie!

Anyway, yes, The Men Who Glare at Stoats...

I was curious about the book, but on your recommendation i shall pop it onto the 'shall read' list.

On your previous thread, several people were skeptical about the film, yet i don't see how you can be. In my opinion it was a very enjoyable, and meaningful production, i found you just had to look a little deeper and past the plot a bit.

Got a lot of books on the agenda at the moment though, but i will get round to it some time.

Seriously, the book knocks the film out of the park. I read it in two days flat, and the reason the film was a disappointment is that the book is so good. Don't put it on a list. Buy it and read it!

The documentary of the book was part of a series Jon Ronson made for channel 4 called Crazy Rulers of the World. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-mkdG_L ... re=related

It's genuinely frightening.

bought and read, quickly too, its quite unputdownable ( a word i think i may have just created)

you seriously have to stop yourself and remind yourself that its non fiction at several points through the book.

definately worth a read.

So is the consensus that i should avoid the film now then or is it worth a watch?

Both film and book are worth the effort in my opinion, however Jon Ronson's earlier book "THEM!" is is far more interesting and..unputdownableistical

Trust me the film is stellar (in my opinion) although i havent read the book, im assuming it will be even better than the film.
