Now a holiday for me and the family would cost a few grand...

how on earth does it cost £10,000,000 for ONE MAN to come for a small holiday to England for a bit? 10 million pounds????

Now I'm all for 5 star resorts but why on earth is it costing that much? And how come he has it paid for him?

So he's also trying to save his followers thats how much he cares. In fact he cares so much he's willing to endanger his own soul by taking the money that would corrupt so many others.

I have no idea, but a state leader visiting is not cheap. Having a guy like Berlusconi over would probably cost the same. Transport and coordination, helicopters, VIPs, staff, security, limo rent and so on and so on.

With regards to the american visit, I remember reading that fear of terrorist attacks drove up security costs considerably. My guess is, that it's the same here.

I don't envy him... working from seven in the morning to eleven in the evening when you are in your 80s is not my idea of retirement

I'm sorry, but have you seen the inside of the Vatican? Hardly your average two up two down. And yes, it must be a tough old life with all those lackeys running around after you, running your bath, turning down your bed sheets, putting your slippers in just the right place...

Maybe if the Pope can prove that any of the nasty ideas he espouses is a good one, the Vatican shouldn't be forced to pay to protect their man. But, really, everything each successive Pope has come out with has been wrong, from the Earth being the centre of the universe downwards to condoms not preventing AIDS.

I used to hear speeches denouncing the Pope all the time in Northern Ireland when I sold svengali decks there in "the field" on the 12th July which is a special day of celebration for Ulster protestants where denouncing the pope is considered terribly commendable.

The "field" is a special place where the parade ends up where there are various vendors selling things. I used to sell svengali decks there. All the Orangemen with their bowler hats would then get up and make speeches denouncing the Holy Father with great vehemence. Tradition you know.

Anyway I happen to know the Pope was never offended mainly because he has never been invited.
