I thought Stevie's act was great. Truly original. But judging from Simon Cowell's reaction; he kept saying how it wasn't a magic trick, but knowing how cynical he is and that his researchers would easily have discoovered that Stevie is a magician' I suspect he was 'booked' by the program to spice it up with something a bit different.

If it is a trick of some sort the method must be so stupidly easy, as theres nothing to be seen, so its usually staring us all in the face.

the "trick" to it is reasonably simple.

like seance work. Its 90% natural, 10% bluff.

take the ring on padlock for example.

the method he used on the show, is there to see if you look.

And Its quite cheeky too. But it does involve swallowing the padlock, the key, and the ring :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

For once Mr Cowell looked amazed at seeing a decent magic trick, performed by someone who has years and years of experience under his belt.

I thought that the presentation was superb and on a different night I too think that Stevie would have gone through to the final.

I think that the final load of the mobile phone cost him some votes. Most lay people who watched genuinely believed that the ring, lock and key swallowing was real up to that point and when they saw the palming of the phone, I think that it made people change their minds and bring everything back down to it all being a trick.

If the camera hadn't caught the phone moment then it would have had a lot more people speculating.

I agree, given the competition there wasn't a chance he could've got through to the final

But he seemed to have been received well, and it was nice to see him do bits on More Talent :)

The reason David Copperfield is not the greatest magician alive is because he made the fatal mistake of televising his grand illusions, which as a result are now all revealed by Google.

By contrast, Peter Marvey does stunts just as impressive, but deliberately never televises them, because television kills magic.

On another note, I had some ousemates today asking about "The lightbulb guy"

They are baffled!

To be honest, I just nodded along knowledgablly, but only knowing some of how it's done...

I'll not go into a debate on tv and magic now, but you can quite easily tell the settup from watching the tv clip on Youtube; I had to take it down because too many people were revealing the explanation in the comments.

On the basis that the thread is going off topic, locking is a strong possibility.

However, just to get it back on track and to upset a lot of pople  I have to admit I didn't like the act at all, swallowing and regurgitating - real or otherwise - just isn't what I'd class as entertainment. I can see there's a definite niche market for it in clubs and cabaret but I really don't see it as being apropriate for a TV Variety show. On these occasions, the ol' TV remote comes in very handy!!
