Glad to say that my lamp arrived this morning and it's a beaut! Spirit Lamp is very easy to use and is totally under your control at all times, the spec can actually install the battery and the bulb as proof that everything is innocent (of course it is

!). The working literally goes like a dream - a few minute's practice and I was operating the gizmo almost subconsciously.
Warstone Cemetery, as mentioned in the routine, is well within easy reach and I'm tempted to take the lamp there and see what the reactions are from any of the living passers by...
Construction is excellent but the thing which really, really impressed me (I'm a bit of a stickler for this sort of thing) is that there are five cross slot brass screws used to hold the battery casing and the bulb holder. All five were perfectly aligned with the slots left to right rather than in any haphazard arrangement. To me, that's a sign of very high standards and care in workmanship so thank you Simon. I'm only sorry I'm going on hols tomorrow so won't be able to really give this a proper trial until the end of the month, if only these cheapo airlines would give a bit more baggage allowance I’d have taken it with me!
In the meantime I’ve found a very nice box, very much like a miniature treasure chest, to put the lamp in and, with a bit of antiquing etc, it'll all look and work rather well....
