Well, my Alakazam impulse buy (thanks again, Mandrake...) arrived Wednesday. Very impressive speed, considering Easter weekend and everything.

I got nervous looking through the goodies, though. First off, a quick flick through Fight Dirty, and the book opens straight to a human-shaped target with the line: "You will conceal the weapons in the following way: Gun, left pocket; Knife, right pocket..." Then a flick through Short, Punchy, and Mental, and I open straight to: "Red, shot; Blue, strangled; Green, stabbed; Black, beaten..."

So I thought, well, that's Andy Nyman for you. Let's have a look at Karl Fulves and his nice safe card tricks. Open the book and I'm staring at a list saying "1, Serial killer; 2, Armed robber; 3, Axe murderer..."

If all that was an omen, I don't want to know what's coming.

I just picked up a Cartamundi Stratus deck from my local Sainsbury's for 56p. I like the Stratus cards. They look cheap but handle really nicely.

You can get the catamundi royale bridge cards for about a pound in some shops (trying to remember which). I prefer the royale's to bycycles because, in the UK, Cartamundi is a much more common brand. And they handle well.
