Ideas for "coin unique"

Postby dksokol » Apr 19th, '05, 15:30

Hi everyone,

I have "coin unique" (£1/1p) but I really don't use it much. I feel I should but I need some good ideas on how to do so. Can anyone help, or at least provide some inspiration?

I table-hop at a restaurant once a week, so any restaurant-friendly (or restaurant-specific) ideas would be particularly welcome!

Best,

Daniel

25 tricks with scotch and soda from penquin is a good start.

two that I do which get good reactions.

Put the £1 on top of the 1p on a flat surface, cup over the top and move the cup in circles. The motion forces the coins together around the inside edge of the cup and when lifted, only the £1 coin remains. Some like to do this with a glass but I think that it gives the game away, although it is visual.

2nd, I put the a silk over the specs palm and put the coins in the same fasion on top of the silk, inside of the palm. Close up the silk by gathering the 4 corners and pull the corners through my wedding ring (can borrow a ring but needs to be large enough). When the coins go through the ring I say look how getting married has cost me money. Undo the silk and only the £1 remains.

I can't remember but variations of these may be included in the Eddie Gibson instructions. 2nd usually gets a laugh as well, particularly at weddings.

I use dat8962's first one but usually do it on a beer mat or something.. I then do the trick with a glass, cup or anything that covers the two coins, remove the cover and one coin.. then lift the beer mat or whatever to reveal to 1p.

I've had really good reactions to this from Wows to I know how that's done (which they don't from their attempts to explain it). Either way it's really effective.

If you have coin unique then 25 tricks with CU is OK as it adds a few more to your performance but I have usually stuck with the ones that came with it as they are all variations on a theme. I'm not saying don't buy it.. but it does cover some of the same stuff in a few places.

You could also try the 2p-£2 version for coin under watch (really effective). It's a little expensive (about £35) but using the two togther I've found adds a bit as it appears you can do anything with any coins and just generally mixes it all up.

Hope this helps.

Placing the coin

Postby dksokol » Apr 20th, '05, 16:06

Thanks, but how do you place the duplicate 1p coin under the mat without getting busted?

D.

p.s - and, alas, there are no beer mats on restaurant tables!

I'd be inclined to "play" with the mat whilst chatting casually with my friends. Load the coin in place and, after an appropriate time (?5 - 10 minutes?), start the routine.

As for doing the routine in a restaurant, how about doing the "business" on, for instance, a side plate?

These comments are from the top of my head - I don't use this piece of kit, although I have it. I hope that others also have ideas that they're willing to share.

Maybe make it appear undera close-up mat, if you're using one, that is - or how about under a napkin that you 'moved' out of your way before the routine started three tricks ago?

"Not only has it vanished, but it's actually travelled all the way across the table to ... here!"

OK not the MOST imaginative idea, but keep thinking along those lines.

I have the 2p/10p version of this effect and its also a nice one that an ordinary 10p will fit into the shell of the 2p without getting stuck!

I only bought the effect if the 10p would fit into the 2p shell this way.....some do, some don't (depends who makes it)!

I was shown a good routine with it by Jerry Sadowitz and it's a killer!

There's a whole stack of places where you could hide or conceal a penny and can do so well in advance of your performance.

A very small amount of magicians wax should hold a penny in place under tables, behind wall pictures etc. Sit someone down and when the penny goes, get them to reach under their seat where they will find a penny stuck to the underside.

The same goes for cards that you may want to force as part of a trick. All down to the use of a little imagination

stick a penny to the underside of a class table or window and do the melt through glass routine.

How do I get the peeny under a beer mat...

Simple misdirection a bit before I do the trick.

No one notices you playing or moving the mat.. then you do the trick and all that's forgotten way before the penny vanishes.. pause again and then make some comments etc.. and reveal the penny under the mat.

It's all about performance really.. (which is just as important as the trick techniques). I learned a lot from the Devil's Picturebook.. especially one trick in particular where the performance is everything !

I've found (over my very limited performances) that if you don't take much notice of things.. neither does anyone else.

Further to my last post on this I have just had a look at the new DVD on corporate close-up by Martin Sanderson and it has a great routine on there using the 2p/10p version of coin unique for coin under watch! :)

I've got £1/1p coin unique and a 2p and 1p shell. Can someone PM me to let me know if I need anything else to do a scotch and soda routine (excuse the lack of knowledge.)

Cheers

your coin unique is a version of the scotch and soda, the vanish is accomplished by a diferent method but they essentialy work the same way so no you don't need any extra bits.
