the original REC was the scariest film i've seen as an adult...

elephant man freaked me out when i was young, as did equus...

devil's rejects is probably one of my favourite evil film thats been out in the past few years...good soundtrack too...

but horror? hmmm...the first SAW, and paranormal activity i thought were both very good...

anti-christ was ok...tried too hard though...

Was that the film where William Defoe castrates himself or something.

Yeah I heard about it. Not gonna see it. Enough people get castrated just by watching/reading Twilight.

REC was very good indeed. Very creepy. I was a bit distracted at the end and am not sure I fully understand the final bit of it. Now that I've got the DVD, I'll have to watch it again.

I enjoyed Saw, but (being a moderately hardcore adventure gamer) guessed the twist right from the start. Haven't seen any of the sequels yet.

One thing about The Exorcist that I've heard but can't confirm is that the director was playing around with subliminal stimuli to try to make the film scarier. The soundtrack contains "instinctive fear" noises like lion roars and human shrieks buried under the music.

The exorcist has never really bothered me that much whereas Rosemary's baby left me really unsettled even though nothing really happens in most of the film.

It really did just cost that, the marketing etc is a seperate thing. It's an interesting story if you like DIY film-making like early Rodriguez and Raimi. The director basically turned his house into the set and found a couple of actors to put in it.

Spielberg watched the movie and loved it and once his name gets behind something, you can rest easy.

As for The Exorcist, i love the poster with the priest staring up at the window. The movie itself was very well made but i watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and i think my nerves have been dulled by others. Have to say that i was 12 when i watched Poltergeist and i don't think i slept for a month. If i watched it now i'd probably wonder what the fuss was about, but i've had no desire to.
