If you're just after something to practice with, to be honest I'd use normal british coins. Unless you're doing some fairly specific palms, there isn't much difference palming a dollar and palming a £2 coin (if you're after tips on the best british coin to practice with, £2 and 50p are easiest in my opinion, but I was insane and learnt with 2p coins when I started)
Out of interest, are you planning on performing to people with dollar coins? If you want to work with 'normal money' - that is british money - it's best learning the feel of british coins anyway just so that you get no big surprises
