I don't know which simple vanishes you are using but, I think it's a combination of a lot of things....
Technique, misdirection and belief.....I am not saying that you are lacking in all of these but a conbination of any one, two or all three of them will make the effect you are doing fail...
Also if you constantly show your friends similar effects and they have caught you before, then maybe you are setting yourself up to fail as they may just say it's in your other hand anyway, meaning if you did some other vanish they would just say....Its in your other hand like a small kid would say, "It's up your sleeve".... whether it is on not.....they are only guessing but....if it is up your sleeve to your mind they have caught you.....when in reality they are only guessing.
I will break this down for you.....
Technique....if your technique is not practiced or as near perfect as you can make it then you will be caught and maybe more so by friends who have seen your effects before, so your technique has to be extra good to fool this type of audience.
Misdirection....You must use misdirection to achieve what you want to achieve in creating the effect and to make it appear magical.....if you forget this part you will get caught
Belief....You have to believe in what you are doing. When you place the coin in your hand but retain in the other hand, you have to believe that the coin has actually moved form one hand to the other, I mean really beleive it yourself.....
Actually place a coin from your right hand into your left (or other way round if that's how you do it).....feel the weight of the coin in the hand and rub the coin a little.....now false transfer the coin, copying the action, feel the weight of the imaginary coin, rub it a little then crumble the coin to nothing.....
If you have the coin in your othe hand in classic palm, open your jacket using your hands in a natural way to show that the coin is not inside your coat/jacket etc....now reach into your jacket or to some place like your elbow or leg etc and produce the coin at your fingertips saying I know it got stuck about here.
For Inspiration watch David Williamson do this with 4 or 5 full sized dollars classic palmed in his hand....I am sure there is a video or DVD out there of David Williamson doing this I have an old Video of him and he is just fantastic.
I hope this helps....!
