Magic Clubs

Postby Johnny Wizz » May 25th, '05, 12:24

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a magic club in the Oxford area that I could join as an enthusiastic beginer?

Do you have to have some sort of "qualification" to join a club?

The only one I know about is the Thames Valley Magicians Guild, you can find out more from Ian Ewers on 01869 246618 - think they meet monthly in Bicester.

As for joining requirements, first requisite is an interest, second is that you usually do either an audition (which is not as daunting as it sounds, you're among friends and they have all had to do the same!) or a talk on an aspect of magic (history, a trick and it's genus or something related to the preformance of art) and then you're a probationer for a period and then bingo - you're a grown-up!

Joining a magic club or society is absolutely the best thing you can do - peers, lectures, demonstrations, performances and sales (and that's the car park before they meet!!!).

Hope this helps,

Vic

Knew I'd seen it on someone's replies as footer (Bananafish),

These might help:

Magical Societies - http://www.ipswichmagicalsociety.co.uk/linsocuk.htm

Shops - http://www.ipswichmagicalsociety.co.uk/linshopuk.htm

I've bookmarked the Ipswich Society as a source of information now.

That's what we like to see. Thanks Vic.

Thank you Bananafish for putting the link up. It's been the source of some interesting discoveries.

Gosh,

Silly question but do any other names have shortcuts to them - I type the letters B&F and it translates to full name. Wonder if this is done by lookup table or whar - really smart feature.

Enlighten me - I like this as a feature,

Vic

'Tis merely a toy!

A while back we were addressing a lot of the members by name and it seemed sensible to have abreviations for the longer ones using the word censor:

B F=Bananafish
m d k=Mandrake
m d m=MagicDiscoMan
h t=ht

and there are probably a few more

Cogito, ergo sum.
Cogito sumere potum alterum.

Nick,

Thanks for reply. Thinks that is extremely smart use of the technology.

Will have to remember shortcuts now.

Thanks again,

Vic
