New Channel Five show - "Impossible"

Postby Edantes » May 12th, '11, 23:35

I just watched the new Channel Five magic show "Impossible." I thought I would hate it because I knew it was going to be a "magic-based game show" but I have to say I quite enjoyed the layout of the programe and I think I'll be tuning in again next time :)

What did others think? My opinions of these shows are often completely different to those of other magicians

It was quite fun but the basic concept seems a bit flawed. My wife got bored with it pretty quickly. Nice to see a JOL though!

it wasnt a magic themed game show.It was a game show themed magic show.
Clearly, by the methods used, the whole thing is under the controll of the performers.

The plus points in this show, are that its a different way of presenting magic, and that there is no exposure what so ever.

to me as a magician, The end effect was rushed, and lost all impact. And i felt that the props used were wrong.
in the recent past other performers have done this using much more visual methods.

Had to laugh at the "psychic woman" saying it was definitely A but she was going to say "B" to cover both options.

Thought this was great. It seemed to be a stage show in a T.V studio/Bar that had a bit of everything - money being won and lost, audience participation and tricks that fool lay people and magicians.

It was comical however that the psychic had crystals placed in the box and yet said something along the lines of ' I Think psychologically your attention is being drawn here'.

Is the scratch card effect a marketed item, or was it created for the show?

I thought it was decent. Got a bit bored towards the end but I liked the first trick a lot (the one with the emotions). Is this effect marketed?

Not sure if that one is marketed separately, it seemed to use a principle so it may be in a book.

I started to watch this this morning, and enjoyed the first half. Unfortuantly I came back from Uni and it has now been taken off 'Demand 5'.
Shame, I wanted to see the rest.

Thanks so much! I was going to check out youtube later, to see if someone had filmed/copied it. But strange its actually Demand 5 that has it. I will watch it now.

Thanks again.

As Peter Nardi was one of the magic consultants for the show i think you'll find that a lot of the stuff seen on the programme can be bought from his shop... but check out this http://www.alakazam.co.uk/product-Blind ... Trick.html the principle is used here for the effect that you liked - obviously it can be found elsewhere on other magic establishments!!

I thought people would be jumping on here with "he said it was impossible but there's a way to do it" suggestions. Maybe later in the series...

I really enjoyed the whole thing. Good fun and an interesting new game show concept. It's a shame more of Phil's cheeky personality didn't come through though.

I thought it was really interesting watching how the two gents reacted to everything and had a great deal of difficulty deciding on the impossibility of the situation. Looking forward to the next one.

Just watching this now, it's good! The emotional envelopes didn't fool me but the scratchcard did - even though I've seen scratchcard based effects before!

Still unsure how it was done now - if you pause it, you can see that the numbers are very well defined, so....

yeah, nice work!
