Pressure fan and one handed riffle shuffle help

Postby Tjex1 » Jul 21st, '11, 18:54

Hi

I started magic about 4 years ago (if you have read my introduction thread you will probably know) but quit, and have recently joined about 3 weeks ago. I need some help getting to grips with a pressure fan. After about 5 minutes of handling the cards they get sticky (sweaty hands!) and after looking at pretty much every pressure fan tutorial in existence can't work out how to do it (I can do a thumb fan). I would also like advice on the one handed riffle shuffle, I have perfected the 2 hand version.

Thanks,
Tjex1

Can you spring cards? It's pretty much the same action to do a pressure fan. or a Le Paul spread.

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

Thanks for the reply so soon!

I can spring the cards, in the process of learning how to catch them! I get around half way round then it all falls apart, I can't get a proper grip on them.

It sounds boring, predictable, and frustrating but....practice.

It took me a while to get the pressure fan down, and I buckled many a deck in the process. Eventually though, and as long as your grip is right, it will just happen and you'll get it. A sunbeam will break through the clouds and illuminate you, angels will sing and your mother will openly weep.

Then you'll try it again and it will fail. But remount that horse and persevere. The 'snap' that many tutorials speak of will come with time too. That's what always threw me. Don't try and snap the cards round, they'll just go themselves. Watch vids of people doing it, and you'll take it all in.

Same advice for the one handed riffle shuffle. Take it slowly, very slowly, and practice all hell out of it.

Thank you very much for all your help, I will persevere and hopefully sometime in the future I will be able to help people in my situation now.

And one more thing, you should track down a flourish called Under Pressure. Its like half a pressure fan and it will help you to do a whole one.

You might want to pick up De'vo's "Xtreme Beginnerz" dvds. They teach the one hand shuffle in a very clear way and there is an hour long video on fanning that is excellent.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

i learnt it(pressure fan) from allan ackermans card controll, he mentions that he went through hundreds of decks trying to perfect it, but this can be done with an old deck of cards too.

when i started doing this i only used an old deck untill i had the feel of it. the cards were soft and sweaty by the end but you could get a fan although not the best spread, but when i then tryed it with a new deck it gave a perfect even spread. what im saying is dont fall into the trap of going through loads of packs of cards as this can be done with an old pack.
