I'd take things in context a little beyond this particular thread Chris.

I disagree, I think there is a fine line we walk on, that is sort of a non-verbal agreement between us and our audience.

They expect when we come out, we do what we do, and what is happening is as they see it.

We have our heads in the clouds to think that they don't know what Pre-show is. We also think that just because they don't spill the beans on IS' or DR when we use it on them that we are somehow amazing masters of control, most of the time it isn't . They know precisely what is going on and that they are being used. They don't spill the beans because unlike us, they realise that it's just a trick and don't want to spoil the fun.

Instant Stoogery, like anything that could go wrong, DOES take a lot of balls and immense spectator management skills. You get much more of a buzz and the audience are even more astonished when something like this goes right. If that's too much, stick to a predictable, safe ACR.

I agree on the audience management, I concur that it's a valid genuine technique that requires practice.

But all this talk of 'balls' all the time, like it's some kind of buzz word. THIS is the new Godwins law of magic.

Anything can go wrong, and at anytime, irrespective of how experienced you are. Does everything require 'balls' to pull off? As I see it, others will rightfully disagree, we're all different. A method is a method is a method, a means to an end. As for feeling worried when doing it, I'm sure everyone is more worried about different methods. Colin's Bookless test doesn't scare me, because the logic makes sense. When I have to do a billet peek, that scares the bejeezus out of me.

Don't mean to be argumentative, just claiming that no-one else does XYZ because they don't have the 'balls' just doesn't hold water.

P.S Have I said 'balls' enough yet?

You mean Beardy's Facebook routine doesn't involve small spheres to do it?

Damn. So close. I'll work it out one of these days...

All this Beardy bashing reeks of bullying really. I have known the young chap for a number of years and he has bags of confidence and enthusiasm and isn't afraid to get up there and do it. As well as talent (which he does have) these are the kinds of things that get you somewhere in this industry.

For someone who is only 12 or whatever it is, he is getting some great experience under his belt and that is trying his material out in front of large crowds rather than mates down the pub and the cat.

In a few years time you'll all want to be the new Chris Beard, trust me...
