There were some 10p versions available a few years ago but they all seem to be out of stock in dealers...maybe eBay could be your friend on this one?

I will keep my eye out on ebay.

Just to recap - I'm looking for a UK folding coin but the gimmick needs to be internal so it can be examined. Obviously this isn't going to be the cheap folding coins (eg the ones on ebay for around three quid).

Ideally a £2 coin but any UK coin at least as big as 10p, so 50p or £2 would be fine.

Can anyone tell me if Musketeer Coin or Butter Coin are what I'm looking for? Or would that be giving away some secret?

I bought a folding 10p from magic tricks and the creases don't show unless you are using it too close to the spectator. Obviously if you want to hand it out for examination you have to switch it for a non gimmicked 10p. I got mine for £10.99 from www.magictricks.co.uk

Perhaps Eddie Gibson might be able to offer something suitable?

Ah, but is the mechanism internal or external? I'm not concerned about the crease or crack or whatever across the middle, I just don't want one with a band around the outside!

I own, and am willing to sell a 10p version buttercoin with its DVD for £15. It is basically identical to a regular to a folding coin, though the fold allows it to be used for other superioir applications. The gimmick is external.

I picked up a couple of coins from ebay too. Fortunately they weren't overly expensive but they are absolutely terrible to use.
The external workings mean that i've had the bands come lose halfway through a trick, leaving the coin in 2 pieces...... nightmare!

I've had the problem of elastic bands coming off. I've now put silver tape around the edge. This hopefully solves two problems: it hides the groove (which in my experience people will see if you hand them the bottle - and I think it's pretty lame if you do the trick and they can't hold the bottle and peer in at the coin) and secondly it (I think...) holds the elastic band on!

I think if you buy a £3 coin it's going to be rubbish. Hopefully the £10-£15 ones (usually marketed as 'pro quality' or 'hand crafted' are much better. I will get one soon and find out...

I wonder if the 50ps are easier to get the elastic bands on than the 10ps - less fiddly? Certainly they should look far more impressive once inside the bottle.

The best folding and bitten coins i have had by far is the ones off ebay from seller (deleted by Mods), i have had several over the years and none have matched his quality especially the double folding bitten and restored ones. Certainly worth a look

I believe Tango makes coins with internal gimmicking.

Merlin's of Wakefield sometimes stock them, I think. Others probably do too.

Time for a Google search, methinks...
