Thanks peeps. The 50p shell was in response to a marketed effect I recently purchased: I shan't say what it is, as that'd be exposure. But you can imagine my frustration when having practised the effect and visualising myself using it that night it had mysteriously disappeared: searching everywhere I realised it would probably appear, but decided to get a VERY reasonably priced 2p shell from eBay (£3.26!)
Ah, thanks, the slippery reference makes sense now. I guess for my requirements it should just be a normal shell. The 2p shell will work for my purposes: just a difference in the two coins used. The marketed routine is more involved than a mere transposition, and is certainly a routine that represents excellent value for money as well as being direct and well thought out, as well as relying on misdirection and sleight of hand that will make the routine a joy to perform, which is equally important as the reaction, as performing a move under someone's nose and pulling it off gives immense pleasure.
The above posts are right, I'd imagine the 50p shape would make it difficult, hence why in hindsight the supplied (now lost) gaff was custom made, which goes some way to dispelling my own perceptions that many effects simply rely on putting together existing available gaffs, admittedly packaged with great tuition and routining, but essentially, adopting that alchemist approach into creating something valuable out of the ordinary. Then again, I suppose that's what magic is about, and that sense of "if only I'd thought of that, of course!" you get as a magic consumer is often the value in marketed effects.
