Actually it was VERY cold that night and we hadn't dressed to be stood outside, so quite possibly he was shaking lol. I've got other pics too where it's still, but that's the only one when he was directly talking with me.

Also, there's an update:

I'm looking forwards to these. I know one of the experiments (i was in the audience) and have heard on derren's blog about the first one, called the assassin, sounds amazing.

I wish I had derren's job some times.

Now that the shows have been released Im sure it's safe.... I was selected from the audience to partake in all sorts of experiments for one of the shows.

I never expected I'd be wearing nothing but a robe on national tv!

Interesting. Especially as he says in one of his books he doesn't believe hypnosis exists.

Well he says it works, but only because people think it works. It can be likened to a placebo. People are basically just mental.

OK, sure. You can put it that way if you like. But essentially the point remains that DB doesn't think hypnosis exists beyond people playing along with you. Which is kinda the same as saying it doesn't exist. But I do take your, albeit pedantic, point. And I love your summary.

What you mention is a strain of hypnotism. It only depends on what your interpretation of hypnosis is to decide wether it exists or not.

If it doesn't exist then Paul McKenna is a very fortunate man to have found so many people willing to play along.

Yes, hypnotherapy, for example, is very different to stage hypnosis.

People report hypnotherapy working, but of course they also report homoeopathy to work, which brings me back to the point of it being considered similar to placebo's. But then, if I have a headache, someone gives me a pill (which is actually just sugar) and tell's me it will get rid of my headache and then my mind makes my own headache go away, I'm not going to complain...it certainly did the trick for me.

On a grander scale, if they claim the pill will cure cancer and charge for it, then that's disgraceful. However hypnotherapists really do seem to cure or lessen phobic symptoms or help people quit addictions - I don't know what the percentage success rate is, but probably quite high, because the people that go are open minded and almost expectant that hypnosis works and will work for them. If that's the only reason that it works, so what? It doesn't mean it doesn't exactly 'exist' because in actual fact it pretty much just worked better than anything else.

I'll have to read the chapter again, but I'm sure he eludes more to what I'm getting at as opposed to outright saying "No, hypnosis isn't real, it's completely made up and EVERYONE that apparently get's hypnotised is actually just showing off.", maybe he does, but I don't remember reading it quite like that... There's quite a few horribly embarrassing things stage hypnotists get people to do; I don't think everyone that does these things is perfectly happy to play along.

He sure is. It's amazing what people will do when they believe you have a power. See any religion you like as an example.

Have you suffered a major trauma in the past relating to hypnotism/religion?

You are very dismissive and seem to post with the view of enticing people into a heated debate. If it doesn't work for you (both hypnotism and/or Religion) then just let it be.

For those interested, I was under hypnosis for the show and I'm interested to see how it appears from a spectators point of view. It really was a wonderful experience.

These specials sound very entertaining and I cant wait to see the results of his latest offerings.

No, I was just quoting what Derren wrote in his book. No need to overreact if you don't agree with him.

As I said, I was just quoting Mr Brown. It was him that was dismissive.

Sorry, do you own this forum, or in some way govern what can and cannot be discussed on it?

Surely on a magic forum, where I'd imagine most people here share the opinion that it the same as any kind of pseudo science BS, discussions around that are not only welcomed by encouraged?

Maybe I'm wrong?

Ah, so you have baggage, having fallen for the social conditioning. I see now why you are being so very confrontational and rude towards me. Don't feel stupid about it, I imagine it was hard not to go along with it, seeing as you are fan of Brown, and the cameras there and so on.

Me too. Nothing says entertainment to me more than someone pretending to do something he knows doesn't exist. I love that sort of thing.

Let me make it very clear at this point that all opinions, for or against, are welcome provided they are presented courteously and in a constructive way. Assumptions of majority opinons are rarely correct so let's just get back on the original topic and stay there please.
