Postby morrowsean » Oct 7th, '11, 15:30

hi, Ive been Practiscing my Muscle Pass for around a week now, and my hands are killing me, very red and sore. In the past week, ive only managed to gain a couple of inches pop, without much improvement. Im currently learning from Jay Nobelzadas dvd.

Can anyone offer any tips?

Thankyou!

This helped me a lot when I was learning the move. Other than that, it's just repetition. Good luck and fight through the pain!

What's the routine you want to learn it for?

It's always seemed like juggling to me. i.e. just saying "look, I am clever and practised this for YEARS".

I've never seen it used effectively in magic aside from Shoot, when he fires the coin to a breast pocket to vanish it But few people can do it as well as he can.

Well, realistically you could argue a lot of card handling/magic is the same, it's entertainment which takes practice and skill, usually years worth.

I know what you mean though, it's mainly just something which looks cool, however you could just go up to someone, bring out a coin and say, 'hey want to see me reverse time?'. Then after you have their immediate attention go into something else, perhaps make that same coin vanish.

But yeah it's a horrible thing to try and learn in my opinion, hand does not like it! I'd say make sure you leave your hand for a while if it's really aching, you don't want to get RSI. No joke.

If you do it too often you can get serious problems, max 15 minutes a day practice or complications can ensue

I guess it depends. I strive continually to make it look like I am NOT clever with my hands. I never do a flourish, heck, I don't even do a riffle shuffle. I find if people think you are clever with your hands the magic is diminished massively.

Sure it has it's place, as does juggling, but to me, it's not "magic" it is an overt display of skill. Which, but it's very nature, removes the magic I strive to create in my audience's minds.

Meh. I think you could just toss the coin up a little from your receiving hand a la shuttle pass and achieve a similar effect.

Any other examples?

Just out of intrest, what coins do you use for the muscle pass? It seems that in the USA they use half dollars, but here £2's look too heavy and 2p's are too small. Apparently you shouldn't use poker chips to start off with because your pass will be weak.

I decided to use this thread instead of starting a new one ;)

Any help would be apprecitated
