I use a galvanised nail on a piece of string, his name is Harry. I was taught how to use a pendulum & the talked saliva build up as a method of seeing how susceptible to suggestion someone was for hypnosis. Too may hypnotists use the stuck hands etc & the pendulum s not something that most people expect, so have no real mental resistance to . It also shows how hypnosis is not really needed if I wanted them to do something, "So why not relax?"
I normally used a pendulum, by showing what control I had over Harry & then saying, something along the lines of.... "Sorry you probably think it's me, here, you take Harry & tell him what you want him to do.." This was a good way of working with a small group as a nail on a piece of string looks silly & draws them into the game. Plus I can hand some string & nails out & say here you make one, name him or her & then we will make them work for you.
The pendulum is also a good way of quickly inducing hypnosis. Put it into their hands, ask them to watch it swing left to right, then back & forward, maybe also in a circle. Then use a quick induction, you can induce 2 to 4 people very quickly this way. Because they are already complying so an induction is easy at that point & deepening the state simply involves them visualising the pendulum moving, or their hand slowly & gently dropping.
