Pendulums

Postby Mancunian Lee » Dec 20th, '11, 08:06

At the weekend the super handsome Vanderbelt kindly gave me a pendulum and ive become obsessed with it. Even the most skeptical person can be primed into making it work, the more skeptical they are the bigger the challenge and the bigger the effect imo.

It's the ultimate demonstration of how subtle our bodies can be and how powerful our brain is.

For me it throws up questions about how much we control our lives. If I as to ask you a question, would you your conscious self answer or would your brain reason and decide, then allow your conscious self to think its made the decision and answer?

Amazing.

If you're just discovering the wonder of pendulums, this new book may be of interest. Lots of great routines for the humble pendulum.

Pablo Amira's got some nice work on Pendulums as well that you might like to have a look at.

I use a galvanised nail on a piece of string, his name is Harry. I was taught how to use a pendulum & the talked saliva build up as a method of seeing how susceptible to suggestion someone was for hypnosis. Too may hypnotists use the stuck hands etc & the pendulum s not something that most people expect, so have no real mental resistance to . It also shows how hypnosis is not really needed if I wanted them to do something, "So why not relax?"
I normally used a pendulum, by showing what control I had over Harry & then saying, something along the lines of.... "Sorry you probably think it's me, here, you take Harry & tell him what you want him to do.." This was a good way of working with a small group as a nail on a piece of string looks silly & draws them into the game. Plus I can hand some string & nails out & say here you make one, name him or her & then we will make them work for you.
The pendulum is also a good way of quickly inducing hypnosis. Put it into their hands, ask them to watch it swing left to right, then back & forward, maybe also in a circle. Then use a quick induction, you can induce 2 to 4 people very quickly this way. Because they are already complying so an induction is easy at that point & deepening the state simply involves them visualising the pendulum moving, or their hand slowly & gently dropping.

I've just read Freddie Valentines Pendulum book and its an inspired read. The thing I took from it was plenty of great ways to prime a victim. But there is information on its history, the different types of pendulums and more importantly the different ways you can use one. Its essential reading for anyone with an interest IMO.

If you have an interest in pendulums or the darker side of entertainment and you don't buy this book, your penis is likely to turn black and eventually rot off.

I have a few other revealing ideas for pendulms in the pipe line, that i will be trying out at some time.
Mainly because we now have regulars at the Datchet Seance, and im trying to keep some things fresh.

I've used pendulums for most of my life (part of the family business, you might say) and have owned hundreds alongside dowsing rods & yokes of various sorts. I've likewise done a ton of reading when it comes to the shut-eye use of these tools as well as the various works by Richard Webster and two or three others in our ranks, who've allowed the Pendulum (ideomotor as a whole) to serve as the foundation to their careers (old way of doing things).

Though they are no longer being produced (I believe) Stuart Palm's "Mau Tou Knows" {http://www.stuartpalm.com/shop/} is one of the most awesome Pendulum bits a MENTALIST could ask for in that it's a complete mini-show (I never leave home without it).

The other bit of material every pendulum worker should know about is Bill Cushman's TRYBILL {http://www.magicpendulums.com/bill-cushmans-trybil.html}

IF you like using Pendulums and do the classic bit of supplying a simple string & washer type pendulum for your audience, there is an excellent bit Luke Jermay has done (though it's been around a while) in which you use a SLINKY toy to demonstrate the movements of the bob from stage. It's an awesome visual that's worth playing with.

the little Owl is pretty. But personally i prefer plain ball pendulums, because they look innocent.
They fit the seance room environment.

I'm with the shrimpmeister general, I do like the look of the owl but the plain ones are the ones for me.

I got it through on Sunday, but had no time to read :( But I'm off for Christmas now :D

I wrote about a few books previously, at some point I'll add some thoughts on the new offering from magicpendulums.com, trybill and Kenton Knepper's book.

Pendulums have to be one of my favourite pieces of kit though, the simplicity and the impact they can have is immense.

I only use the Owl under a very specific set of circumstances. . . he's part of a full experience for the sitter learning about Psychometry in the first phase of the act and it freaks them out every time I pull him out of the purse and start showing them all the hits they've made. I've had many break down and cry because of how much they'd been suppressing their intuitive abilities. . .

Most of the time I have a small brass bob or Crystal Heart that I use however.

Thanks for the shout out Craig, I'm glad you are enjoying Mao Tao. I also use him in a psychometric test situation on sitters. I also have him find people's cards in a spread regularly. What's great though is that they still will pass him around in groups and ask all sorts of questions on there own. The personification of the owl makes the pendulum fun for people who otherwise wouldn't be into it because they don't believe or want to. It becomes a door way for them to cross into more of the real work. I do still have some of Mao Tao Knows in stock. It will go back on my site eventually, It got taken down by accedent and I haven't had the time to put it back on the shop page. If there is enough interest I'll do a second run of these.
