Crediting

Postby magicollie » Jan 31st, '12, 20:06

Hi everyone,

I have been searching around on the forum for the link to a website where they list all tricks which have been published and credits the authors. Could anyone provide me with that link? Also, does anyone know the origin of sandwich effects? Thanks.

Google might be able to help - check out http://www.magictricks.com/library/hist ... ented.html for some of the answers.

Different topic but another useful list - see http://www.magictricks.com/insider/leary.htm

When you say crediting - are you saying you need to know who came up with specific concepts so you can credit them in your own effects?

I have come up with a few ideas for effects, nearly all of the time they don't really have legs, but I've got one idea in mind recently that I think could be marketable.

As a relative noob, I have no idea if something very similar has been done before - although I'm sure that if it has then this incarnation is still fairly unique. If something similar has been done, how do I find out if I'm to be accused of plagiarism of the method? The links above are great for telling you who came up with named effects, but what if you have created a way of doing something and don't know if you're the first?

The only way I am able to go about finding out is to ask people with a lot more experience than I to look over my ideas and see what they think? I'm currently collaborating with someone with a lot more experience than I who is adding ideas and has contacts who can look it over from a legality perspective if we decide to progress it further.

The first thing that I did when I wrote my books is give a copy out to a few trusted people in the know and get their feedback, that can usually get you past most of the crediting issues. Of course you can never guarantee that someone wont unearth the same method in some obscure magazine article from the '50s and call you up on it (me, bitter???) but as long as you've made a good effort to credit everything and are prepared to add in credits afterwards where needed then I think you're ok.

I think you will find Dennis the most usefull place, providing you know what to search for.

incidently, Google sugests that Hofzinser published a number of sandwich effects. Indeed it seems that many of the popular sandwich routines, stem from people atempting to solve Hofzinsers 4 ace problem.
:)
so you will have to go way back to find the answer to your query. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
