Hi guys and girls

what is the oridinal name of this effect in the video http://youtu.be/jqZtJLuXAvI, as i wanna read more up on it (please dont say c&b as im perhaps hoping it has a different name.) or whos the originater?

i also saw a youtube clip of a guy performing this version of c&b at covent garden, but i cant re-find it! anyone have any idea what i should type in?

Honestly that looks like a combination of three different routines, cups and balls, glass through table and the wand thing looks like it's similar to recap.

It's what magic should be, an original combination of well performed techniques.

That's the thing, it's not an effect, it's a series of effects built in to a routine. As Ian says, it's John Carney's routine, so it won't be available. All of the effects he uses are fairly classic, but he's put in the effort to build them in to a routine, and a good one at that.

Shame about the angles...

John Carney has published some routines. I have his book Carneycopia which has many things similarly clever to this. I'm not sure if it contains this exact routine because I'm only part way through it. I'm making the mistake of having too many books on the go at once...

It has a lot of influence from busking material. The glass with paper for a cup came from Dai Vernon, the hat load came from the streets (Gazzo being most famous for it, but really it predates everyone alive), the cup&hat transposition is also one that may have started on the street. George Gilbert and Charlie Caper both independently came up with the same effect (different methods though).
