This brings to mind the old one about a huge van being driven down the road and the driver kept stopping and getting out every so often to bang on the side of the van with a big stick. Eventually someone asked him why and the driver said that the van was full of budgies, so full it was actually over the maximum load limit for the vehicle so he had to keep banging on the sides of the van to stop them perching and fly around a bit to lighten the load!
Of course, the expert mathematicians then spoiled the joke by demonstrating that the downdraft of the birds' wings would at least equal their weight when at rest so the load on the van was essentially the same. So I guess, no matter how frantically we wave, we'll still look like a nation trying to diffuse an unfortunate mass escape of bodily gasses!
