Marc Oberon has a simple one--3 chairs only- in his lecture notes.

He gave me a copy after I adjudicated his first lecture --but they have been passed on to my son.

There is quite a nice impromptu 3 chair test in "Coral Fang" (I think it's in that one).

I do it at parties when someone asks to see something a bit different.

You mean 'Touched By Hoy'.
Briliant --combination of Psychokinetic Touches & Tossed Out Dec--no cards

HOWEVER I do not think he means that kind of Chair Test.
Different kind of Prediction.
Imagine Musical Chairs--when the last chair is sat on--it has been predicted beforehand WHICH chair it will be.

I am using Spellmann's version in my show atm, I removed the last set of numbers from the back of the chair as I didn't feel it made much difference to the end of the effect. So I have even done this with no chairs and the specs just stood in a line :D

Thank you Sammy-my son is always saying this.
He thinks Dad knows everything!!!!! A good lad--well he is 23.

The thing is:
I am just an ordinary guy who has had a great passion for Magic since the age of 9.
At 14, admitted to the Staffs Magic Society where those wonderful magicians treated me as a colleague and helped me again & again. We also had Leslie Melville, Donald Bevan & Christopher Woodward there as young teenagers.
I have been in Magic for 70 years.
I have performed a heck of a lot of Magic in all its branches except Escapology.
I have seen so much Magic.
I have written and lectured many times on it.
I have read, and read and read. Always books since childhood. Not just magic. Collected about 1000 Magic books.
As a teacher of Drama & Theatre, a Director, Choroegrapher, adjudicator, Examiner & actor--I have simply had to develop a good memory-and keep files!
Luckily I was born with a creative streak and an ability to get on with kids and adults. Both individuals, students,& audiences.
This was questioned many, many times by visiting lecturers who would bring students to watch me teach.
I could never tell them why it happened. How it worked. I never tried to discover where my 'instant relationships with people & audiences' came from--in case, finding out made it disappear!!
Then when I was giving the Eulogy at my Mum's funeral in January 1994--I stopped--I had just said 'how she got on with everybody in the town, helped everyone she ever met, people talked to her, listened to her etc' and I realised where this 'abilty had come from. And said so to the congregation. And thank you to Mum.

That is all it is to it.

Sammy--I've retired!

Am sending you an American Chairs effect I was given by one of my magic students about 3 years ago + a cheeky mental effect.
These will keep you quiet--for a bit!!

Sorry I misread what was going on. I read it as; "what is the best trick using three chairs?" :) I really must pay more attention.

I love the musical chairs analogy btw it explains exactly what a chair test is.

Magic_choc_ice

P.S. even though it doesn't use chairs my favourite chair test if the moment is the final routine in Derren Brown's "Enigma"

Roy Yozevitch has a good chair routine called "Places" on The Roy DVD. A spectator shuffles numbered cards to create a random "prediction" of how seven other people will sit in numbered chairs. This turns out to be right, except for two people who are the opposite way round. The performer's sealed prediction is then opened, and names these two people.

"Magic teaches us how to lie without guilt." --Eugene Burger
"Hi, Robbie!" "May your mischief be spread." --Derren Brown

I've used Marc Spelmann's chair test quite a few times and find it really nice, Colin McLeod's also got a really nice test that's worth looking at.

The one Derren used on Enigma pretty much is David Berglas' test, which in the show I saw he admitted with a little 'in' joke.
