I don't necesarily agree with you Stevebo regarding it being easy for specs to work it out.
Even when you know about IT, there are some very skilled performers that will even fool some magicians where IT is concerned. Imagine how it would then look to a lay person.
I don't do much IT work but it's something that fascinates me, particularly when it's done well. I performed a floating bill earlier in the week in a restaurant and it fooled everyone, even those sitting a only a few feet away. I know that everyone was thinking about how it was done, and some may, or will have been spot on without knowing. The fact that they don't know for sure will leave that little bit of doubt in their mind that you're trying to create.
There were those who were rubbing their £10 notes along their jacket sleve to create the static electricity that causes the bill to float, exactly as I told them.
I'd recommend that you keep playing around and experimenting with these effects. I find that it's the patter and presentation that realy sells IT effects and they can be visually strong.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
