Best Magic of 2012!!!

Postby artychris » Dec 18th, '12, 02:03

So it's time for another Talk Magic vote!

This time it's for the best magic products of the year...

Here's the categories for 2012.

Best magic book of the year,

Best magic DVD of the year,

Best magic download,

Best trick released in 2012.

AND, just for the fun of it... two other categories...

Best magic product EVER!

And a "wooden wand" award for the worst magic release of the year!

Just copy and paste this into an e-mail with your favorite magical things and PM it to me. (Don't feel you have to vote for every category, but the more votes the better...)
I'll count things up, and post the results. The deadline day to get your votes in will be January the 7th. We'll have the results for you as soon as possible after that :)

For me the best DVD release has to be 'ultimate self working card tricks'

This does everything it promises to unlike many other magic DVD's. if you are a bit sleight shy then this DVD will add some killer effects to your repatoir. The big mistake with this release would be thinking that this has nothing for you as a working pro.

There are effects on here that will enhance your existing routines. If you perform OOTW then there is a beautiful effect that leaves you set up for this immediately after.

There are also routines in here that are perfect for when you have a pipe and slippers moment and have drunk too much to perform knuckle busting sleights.

Overall this was the best release for me of 2012. Probably not the most groundbreaking but certainly the one that keeps its promises and actually will be a part of your working act at some stage in your set. (Well, mine anyway!)

Alec

Another vote for BBM's Self working DVD. It's great value for money.

I've not really bought much in the way of tricks, but have bought cards. The Vaudeville Deck is cool but I think my favourite has to be the Timeless Deck

My nomination for best magic book of the year: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Gilli-Man-e ... 894&sr=8-3" target="_blank"

No tricks in it, but it is a novel about a magician battling international terrorism, and I am quite anxious to push sales up.

Perhaps we should have had a category for novels using a magic theme! See details of Tony's excellent book at sutra431252.php#p431252

Sadly we didn't get many votes for this so the outcome may not be a true reflection but the results are.....

Best book... Tied in first place are

Triabolical (Montier and Bannon)
Thinking the Impossible (Rioboo)
The Gilli Gilli Man (Carson)

Best DVD... Again a tie with

Ultimate Impromptu Card Magic (Francis BBM),
Woody Aragon Essential Magic Collection
Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks (BBM)

Best Product Ever .. Guess what - another tie

Sponge Balls,
Mark Wilsons Complete Course,
Roberto Giobbi's Card College

Magic Download

Penguin Live Vids

Best Trick released 2012... Two in first place

Woodytown
Timeless deck

As all these received mainly single votes, it didn't seem fair to put any in second place. Thank you to all who voted - and for those who didn't, perhaps we can encourage you to keep notes of your purchases, thoughts and opinions during 2013 and vote next time?

There was similar apathy for the established TMUK (renamed The Allen) Awards.

T'was a pleasure Mandrake.

And yes, hopefully both this and the Allen awards for 2013 will get a far greater turn-out...
