Idea for an effect, need a partner in crime to develop...

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I can explain :).

First, try holding a coin in your left hand and throwing it up.

That's easy.

Now, try and do it but starting with the left hand palm-down (with the coin palmed) so you have to turn over the hand.

Easy.

Now, try to throw it up while making the least motion possible with the left hand. You'll have to turn it over about 90 degrees and make a flicking motion with your wrist. Of couse, this should be fast enough that it just looks like a flick.

Now, flick up an invisible coin and come down to slap it on the back of the left hand. As you're coming down, flick the coin in the left hand up. It should hit the right hand and be slapped down on the back of your hand.

Even if the speccy catches a glimpse of the coin, the throw-up is so hard to see that it just looks like the coin appeared :).

If you are going for a "one heads, one tails" thing... I'd recommend getting 2 double siders. It at least leaves no room for error! (and leaving you out of pocket, hehe!)

Me too

Have the Raven in your left hand. Flip the coin up with your right hand, and slap it onto the back of your right hand with your left hand. Hopefully, the slap will cover any noise caused by the Raven. Lift your hand to show the coin not on the back of your fist, then release the Raven and show it gone.

Would this not expose the raven? or have i just misunderstood your explanation?
I get what you mean don't get me wrong but i don't understand why you'd catch the coin on the back of your hand when it is easier to catch it palm up if catching it with the same hand you've flicked it with.
If i toss a coin in the air i'd catch it palm up and then turn it over onto the back of my other hand with a slap. :?:

Hrm...different people I guess.

I catch coins straight onto the back of my hand...

EDIT: Might be possible to do the "empty hand move" but this doesn't work for me so I don't know...

My friend at school is not a magician, but is interested int the art and I sometimes loan him a few sankey DVDs or something. Anyway, he came up with a very nice vanish (which Im very envious about) which basically involves flicking up a coin and catching it, only to show it has vanished. Or multiplied. Ill try and post up a video on it soon, if I cant, because Im really no techno-whizz, I'll have to explain it through words, but it'll be hard. It has some nice psychological subleties woven in (which Im sure he didnt realise, he justed wanted to vanish a coin) Anyway, he named it the NickFlick vanish, and youll be hearing about it soon!

The Coin Flip in Bobo's Modern Coin Magic is a method for flipping a coin, whilst the same hand is palming. This, combined with 2 DF coins (one tails, one heads) would accomplish the 2nd effect you mentioned.

I would be interested in seeing this vanish! Ask him if he wants to teach it to me
