gimmicked glass bottle?

Postby Anjorno » Jul 21st, '13, 17:29

is it possible to get glass bottles that look similar to brand bottles. Like beer, larger and soda or alchopop where the base comes off and on but is designed in such a way that it blends into the bottle design and all it would take is stick on labels from a real bottle to finish the illusion. I can think of hundreds of possibilities with such a gimmick item.

Take a regular bottle to a glass cutter and tell them where to cut. A clear plastic tube will hold the two sections together.

Only if such a thing exists. If not it will be necessary to invent it  !

do you think its something that would be desirable by magicians also if yes who would you recommend for making a prototypes and finding out if such a trick bottle exsists?

I can't think of any reason I'd need one, sorry. In the good/bad old days before mass production and distribution of magic, the magi had to make all their own props from basic materials so this would be a good way to return to the grass roots.

I've seen this but not for magic. Usually it is a novelty to hide 'valuables' inside and the thieves would just think its a bottle so they would leave it alone. Of course the bottle is not clear

I do know a magician who made his own using a glass cutter. He uses the bottle in a very cool coin and bottle routine. He borrows the bottle and the coin, coin ends up in bottle, coin leaves bottle. Bottom of bottle comes off everybody laughs. Bottom of bottle is vanished. Coin ends up back in bottle, bottle is whole again and given to a spectator to keep with coin inside.

routines like that was my idea and also there is no reason I coundnt use this type of gimmick to do mobile in bottle or make it easier to do label in bottle and a lot more.

Some years ago there TV adverts for bottle cutters - KTel, Ronco or another of those whiz bang gimmick marketeers. The idea was to take a wine bottle and cut the upper section off so the lower half could be used as a vase or some sort of container. I'd like to bet that such items may still be available via the craft and hobby shops. As long as the sharp edges are made safe and you don't breath in any glass dust when cutting the bottle you could produce these quite quickly and have the join wherever you think it best.

Edit - Amazon do one - see http://www.amazon.com/Ephrems-366-Bottl ... B005NK2ZZ0
and there are loads more such as on http://www.ebay.com/bhp/bottle-cutter-kit, and even a vid showing a Perrier type bottle being cut (but not very smoothly!) - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0oNxhXhv5E

There was one of those knocking around at my parents' house years ago. It didn't look too safe to me and I suspect it produced sounds that made fingernails down a blackboard seem soothing!
