I lost my job.
I was working in local radio here in Essex as co-host of a breakfast show. Yesterday, our show finished at 10, the other host and myself went to get lunch, and we ate it at work in our office.
At about 11, our boss called me and asked me to see him in his office.
I was then sacked.
During the conversation it was clear that he didn't want me to tell anyone in the office, even my breakfast show colleague, and that I should leave his office, pack my bag and walk out the door without saying a word to anyone.
He didn't tell me whether or not my show-partner was staying or not, but told me to ask her to see him next, for what I assumed would be his opportunity to tell her that I had been dismissed. Half an hour later, and me and her were sitting outside, smoking a cigarette together, with her in tears. She had been sacked too. And again, told not to tell anyone in the office and just pack her bags and go.
I'm telling everyone now - please, please, PLEASE if you want to be in radio, then watch your back, work VERY hard and make as many contacts as you can.
Today, I sit at my computer at home, and I am unemployed.
It sucks.
Sorry to spring this on everyone, but when your work day goes from 5am to 1pm and you go to bed at 7 or 8pm, you don't have too many people that you can share these things with.
