Used Bookshops in London?

Postby neil_the_newbie » Nov 9th, '14, 20:07

Well, Im off to London in a few days time. I'm going to watch a show at the Magic Circle HQ which should be great. Could anyone recommend any good used book shops in London that might stock magic books? Many thanks in advance.

Can't think of any myself of my head ? Lived in London all my life. But as your in the town you may as well pop into the 2 magic shops, if you have the time? Davenports is only down the road from the circle, and International magic is only a few miles away. I think they both sell used books.. :D Have fun.

You'll enjoy the Magic Circle show, always well worth trying to get to one of their events if anyone's in the neighbourhood. I tend to seek out second hand bookshops in any new towns I visit and, so far, they've all had a section of Magic - not necessarily a huge selection but enough to be interesting. Sadly some of the prices asked are a bit on the high side but it depends on the book and your preferences. Not too long ago I bought a copy of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, full size hardback in the original mailing carton, published in the mid 1950s and it cost me £40.00. OK I can (and did!) buy the Dover version for under a tenner and PDFs are available on line for even less but there's something special about having the proper book from all those years ago. Bottom line, just trawl around for any second hand bookshops and they may very well have stock of magic books to check out.

Charing Cross Road is probably the London focal point for second hand bookshops but when I visit them I rarely find anything magic related.

It's years since I've been to them, but in the past I've bought several books from http://www.skoob.com/ Nearest station is Russell Square.

Skoob is a great secondhand bookshop in general. Massive place, it is!

Another vote for Skoob - I have seen magic books in there in the past.
