Those good ol' emails (OCL - Ben Williams)

Postby MrCat » Oct 24th, '15, 12:47

Hi folks,

It's been such a long time since I didn't ignore those emails that come in every other day with the latest game-changing trick :)

However, I had to go for one last night, it was an impulse buy but for £12.99 instant download I thought I'd give it a shot.

So yea, it was O.C.L by Ben Williams, just in case anyone's interested :) - A review will I'm sure come as soon as I get a chance to mess about with it having watched it last night, but it's a nice effect by the looks. I'm not familiar with any other methods of achieving this so I'm not really in a position to compare, but I do like the presentation and tips he gives on performing it.

I've also had the same email. I thought it looked sweet, so I had a quick look round and found this:

ftopic25496.php

An updated review would be more than welcome though - I'm wondering if it's been revamped, or if it's just an old trick being republished ??

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

It just goes to show that the older stuff can be used again, even seven years later!

Incidentally, Penguin have just re-released X-pert, ten years after we all raved over it on TM!

I looked at X-pert as well .... we must all have the same email subscriptions :P .

To be honest, I wasn't fully convinced with this one, especially the coin bend. You mark an X on an unbent coin and place it with another bunch of coins that the spec is holding. The spec then ends up with a bent coin in their hands with an X on .... I might be wrong, but to me, it appears quite obvious what's happened ...

Haha, oh when I say ignoring I really mean it, I mean mostly deleting without even reading but yea I reckon we have the same mailing list :D So I've missed out on a lot but thought it was about time I got suckered in just for a brief moment and spent some more cash on the latest most amazing thing.

I'm a bit wiser now, but after watching the vid I thought "Hmmmm, yea for 12.99 I want to know how he does this!" haha, and I'm quite pleased I did.

That's not to say I recommend it just yet!...But we'll see once I put some practice in. And I do promise a review, tho after reading that legendary sticky on reviews I'm a bit scared haha, I think I've done ok in the passed tho giving a balanced view :)

X-pert was a lot more versatile than at first glance. In fact we had a whole hidden section devoted to it with access to those who could prove ownership and we came up with three or four new routines which we shared with Neil Tobin who also contributed ideas and suggestions. It still exists down in the TM basement...... somewhere.......

Ha, oh Damn, Mandrake are you telling me I was one e-mail too late for my impulse buy!? :D No choice, I'll just have to work with this for now.
Yea this is a one trick wonder, but a pretty good one I hope. When presented right!

I must admit that OCL appeals to me - a card trick which isn't a card trick and which would appeal to audiences who don't like 'normal' card tricks.

Yep! The way he offers to present it is lovely, and just that.... not a linking rings or a card trick, just an .... impossible thing to do :) I think I've my own patter already...

I await your review on this.

It's kinda obvious how the cards are linked .... I'm not saying I know the method involved, but there's only one way to link the cards, so my biggest question is how examinable are the cards?? If I give the cards away after the trick, will a persistent spec be able to scrutinise the cards and possibly find the secret ??

Also, how easy is the performance and set up and how long to set up/prepare the cards beforehand??

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Ha! A lot of q's there moonbeam :) To which I can't really say much apart from await the review I'm afraid! There's only one way to do it yea haha but it's how it's made examinable that's the (one of, and there's a few) clever bit(s). I've yet to do it myself so I can't really say more, but I'm on it and will get back to y'all :D

The set up is fairly lengthy initially but after that it should be a case of 'no worries' prep, and it's not one you spring off seven times a night, you choose your moment and you do it once with the ultimate showmanship :D ...maybe twice but you don't wanna spoil it :) And I don't wanna say too much as I haven't even tried it yet so I feel I may be being unfair if I make too many snap judgements on a simple preview of the vid.....

The method is lovely tho, and as far as I can tell without having tried it yet, totally giveable away! Nice! Both bits signed 'n' all.

Hahah, damn, I'm afraid I've been super busy and....well.... Erm. Do you mind a bit of good old diy? I' afraid I haven't tried it yet but I do love the method in principle, and I would recommend the digital download at a tenner or there abouts! It ends very clean with a small bit of distraction on your part which is very small and should be real easy for anyone who can talk and perform at the same time haha! And just use the old eye contact ;)

I would say go for it but as stated I haven't tried it even for the mirror yet so.....I think I could love it when I find the time to put in to the creation!

Best I can do just now :) Hope it helps!
