Hello and welcome to TM!
Just to start a controversy on your first day here, I'd say that magic and camera tricks are very similar. Magic is deception, right? (Unless you believe in real magic, which is another matter...

) (Hopefully), nobody agonizes over doing a DL because it's deception. As was in another recent thread, we "entertain people by fooling them". Camera tricks are just another form of deception...
For example, I love Derren Brown's show Trick of the Mind. I think he's a genius and a born performer. However, I also know that he frequently uses off-camera work (e.g. asks someone to write down their chosen number but doesn't show that on camera). Therefore, do I call his show rubbish? No, I think it's great. If a camera trick will produce an entertaining and magical result, by all means go for it.
However, the thing to avoid is when camera tricks remove the entertainment. For example, if you make a video of a card change where there's an obvious cut in the middle, that's not entertaining. The trick is making sure that the end result is magical

.
I'm rambling now (
HELP!!! I'm too young to degenerate into meaningless conglomerates of words elephants monitor sprinkler aaarrrgghh sorry
) so I'll stop before I write anything too inconsistent and incomprehensible.
