Hi,
I have browsed the forum loads for advice and reviews so I thought I had better introduce myself. I am a 30 year old (boo hoo!!!) amateur hobbyist from London. I have been interested in magic for years but have only been actively learning it for about 5 months.
I love close-up magic (Michael Ammar, Daryl, Jay Sankey, Paul Daniels (especially his chop cup routine), Eugene Berger (although I need special equipment to hear that low!!!) and mentalism (particularly Max Maven & Derren Brown (live, not really into the TV show) and Andy Nyman).
As far as techniques and tricks go, I am currently working on a magic show to do at Christmas for my girlfriend's family. I am trying to knock something together out of the magic I feel confident doing. This includes a few packet tricks (Killer Elite, Monte 3.0, The Hidden, In a Flash) a few card tricks (Your Signed Card, Ambitious Card, Reset & That's It), and a cup & ball type routing using the Magus Capsule.
I can do some card control, false shuffles and cuts, a few false displays, a couple of card and coin palms and I am currently trying to learn the Himber Vanish for Jay Sankey's Mexican Jumping Coins and the Classic Pass, because I enjoy severe wrist pain!!
In a nutshell, I can do a few techniques and a few tricks but I have next to no presentation experience. I work in Major Account Sales, so I am articulate and am used to talking on the fly, but performing magic for strangers scares the living wotsit out of me. I also have no experience of grouping the tricks into a routine. Love magic, love learning magic and want to perform. That's about it really.
