This is the key to good routining; not only do you know you're tricks inside out and back to front (with the appropriate patter and presentations) and in which order you will perform them but you also know what you're going to do in between each effect. If that means putting the cards back in their case, and then into your inner left jacket pocket then that should all be practised and rehearsed.

I see quite a few 'magicians' and the links and flow are tenuous at best and non-existent as the norm!
The good bit is that they usually spend five minutes in a fifteen routine rummaging through pockets, etc. trying to locate the required trick. What then seems to happen is that whatever trick they pull out becomes the 'next' trick.
Bottom lime - know your routine and have the stuff lined up to facilitate the flow. Know where it lives and put it back afterwards. I have learnt this and can find the next tricks without appearing to think of it. This flow adds to the illusion and becuase there is a tension being created (I hope) leads me to the final kicker and departure to applause not a call for anyone with psychiatry skills.
