Wonder Words

Postby jabba01 » Jan 26th, '04, 12:34

I have just received my copy of Wonder Words on CD signed by the great man himself. It comes on 12 CDs and I have only just started listening to them. As I cannot find another review anywhere on this board I will once I have finished listening to them write a review.

However needless to say that great things were written about this when it was released on Cassette.

Has no one reviewed wonder words? Ill do that this week if not. But it has been a while since I listened to it so I might need to listen again just to know some specific points to point out.

I listend to the 1st 2 CDs but wasn't particularly impressed. CD1 went through a routine that didn't impress me that much & to be honest I can't remember that much more of it other than I never had the desire to listen to the rest.

I think 'Wonder Words' is fabulous. I'm not quite sure it entirely matches the hype, but there's a lot of good stuff in there. It's not all big principles; some of it is little touches, or thoughts that can help you tweak presentations.

Wonder

Wonder words teaches you how to present your magic with the correct definitions and illustrative linguistics that will add to the over all effect.

It will teach you the benefits of perception, for instance:

I said that?

I said that!

A little basic but you get my drift; it is very useful for fine tuning your act.

The whole set for £150 is, in my opinion, way over the odds. Something like £60 would be more like it. Find a second hand copy or better still borrow one off of a kind magical friend

wardy2001 is 100% on the mark, this is not a book filled with "tricks" but rather a book that teaches you the TRICK of being an effective showman and communicator. For the price, you're getting one heck of a great deal, in that formal classes that teach us how to say and express things would cost thousands of dollars and envelope years of your life.

Magic enthusiasts forget that the bigger part of doing magic isn't knowing the mechanics of an effect, but rather how to effectively present it in a way that transforms it from being a mere trick to something that's magical in the mind and experience of the spectator. Learning proper wordage, how to use your own body language, blocking movement on stage, lighting, etc. are all ingredience towards this end e.g. we must ask ourselves if we really want to create magic or just do tricks? There's a major difference between the two concepts
