Well, aside from the comments above, let's just focus on his credentials:
HE'S A MAGICIAN, EARNING MONEY... SO THEREFORE HE
MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT?
Not quite sure about the 'chav' references... The Chav generation is a rather large stereotypical pigeonhole, and refers not only to WORKING class but also LOWER MIDDLE CLASS.
A Chav is generally considered uneducated and antisocial: surely being learned in the art of magic, and sharing it with the public, charities and celebrities is neither of these?
His 'gangster' aspect is a mere persona. He's young, vibrant, and energetic. There is no more weight in terms of urban 'social subculture meets magic than Hans Moretti did by performing random acts of violence in his magic back in the 80s. He never inspired me to shoot a crossbow at my girlfriend, that's for sure.
I find the analysis of Dynamo within this thread to be rather narrow minded and if anything, borne of the green eyed monster.
He is capitalising on the 'modern thirst for magic' no more than certain record producers have been capitalising on 'made for TV' pop stars. (And for the record, I don't condone the actions of these producers, or the shows—in fact, I rather dislike them.)
Good luck to Dynamo. He's taken the step forward. And for sure, he's certainly not treading on the toes of any bedroom hobbyists, so why should we judge?
Showbusiness has many diverse niches, and from day-to-day, month-to-month, year-to-year we see new niches emerge—usually experimentally at first—to cater for the culture and demands of the audience.
Go back 100 years, and who would have thought, for instance, that two men would be making a career by manipulating their penis's on stage?

The gangster references don't reflect his attitude. Read the biog page on his site, and you'll see that it's probably his promoters who weened that aspect out. His roots, in fact, are firmly in breaking away from 'middle class' folk would perceive as 'the ghetto' of Bradford.
I really do feel sad when someone is criticised at the point when they actually deserve a break. The lad is about to break through to the big time, possibly the hardest battle he's yet to face.
Personally, I wish him luck. So what if he ends up as 'another Blaineite'? Let's see what he's made of before we usher him 'back under his rock'.
