Bug again, hello, we are not gonna inhauler, drink og inject the stuff, we are just gonna add some stuff on a foil, tiny tiny tiny ammounts... How dangerous could this be?
Anything that is both toxic and can be absorbed through your skin without you noticing is dangerous to handle. Flourine, for instance, absorbs really easily, but it causes agony as it eats away at the calcium when it finds bone. Have you thought about rigging up a gimmick with a tiny watch battery and some iron wire? If you can press the contacts home just before handing out the foil (or paper!) you could generate heat on demand multiple times. Of course, it can't be inspected, but there's no real set up and I wouldn't want people inspecting mercuric chloride anyway!

I was just browsing Taurus Magic and remembered Rune's request.
Check out http://www.taurusmagic.net/closeupmagic.html ( look about five items down )
It says these are solid pellets rather than a liquid but I believe this is what you are looking for.

I have some of the fluid at home, and you use such a minute amount, that the danger is minimal.

just remember to wash your hands afterwards.

Is it mercury that you have, or is there something safer?

I have no idea. Its not Mercury though, as its a clear fluid.

I am lead to believe that what ever this substance is, it's a reasonably common chemical.

It's sold by Merlins of Wakefield.

Not sure if it's on their site, but they definitely have it.

We did that in chemistry and chucked quite a bit larger amount of sodium than we were supposed to add (we tend to do that a lot on purpose ) and the think exploded!

:D!

My chemistry textbook has a big red box in the middle of the page telling you not to react sodium with acid. It's not just a little comment, it's a quarter of a page!

I read about a student from Cambridge who bought half a kilo (or some ridiculous amount anyway) of sodium and chucked it into a pond. I wish I could have seen that!

If anyone knows what this is, could they let me know? I don't have the money to buy it, and if it's common, I could
Edited by Mods: We hope that was a joke because anything to do with what you were suggesting isn't appreciated here on TM.
