Usually, 5 is enough, but again, look at Daryl.. how many does he do? 12? 15? ;) It all depends on your patter, presentation, and audience.... someone find it very interesting, someone find it stupid... as a default, i have a routine made up of 5 phases, and that's usually enough...

John Guastaferro has a nice ACR. Instead of a signature, the spectator is asked to draw a car on the face of the card. The card is lost in the deck, then when you honk the horn, it comes back to the top.

He does a nice color change variation where an indifferent card is explained to be your car, just that it's dirty. He then does a paintbrush change to wash your car. It's a nice touch.

For the finale - he claims the card leaves the deck and goes into his pocket. Instead of their card, it's a card that says "look inside the card box" The spectator opens the card box and inside is John's driver's license. Confused, he takes out his wallet, and finds the selection is now in his wallet.

Not my particular thing - but I like the presentation, and the card to wallet climax is a nice touch.

I'd love to include paperclipped, by my MCF isn't up to snuff, yet.

I cannot think of a stronger way to end ANY trick which has a signed card than paperclipped. Especially with it being so simple.

If I'm honest my entire ambitious card routine isn't practiced up to a performable level yet. But the routine detailed earlier in the thread is how I have been practicing it, hopefully I'll get round to trying it out on some peeps soon.

I think all of this "is this enough phases" stuff is completely unneccessary. When I get my ambitous card routine up to scratch and find a few more phases that I like I won't be sticking to any specific routine, I'll be deciding what I want to do next as I go along and decide when to end it by guaging my spectator's level of interest. Not everyone cares about seeing a card move to the top or where ever, so you're gonna have to develop the skill to know when to move on to something else and when to hit them with specific things. Some people will be left wanting more after you finish a 40,000 phase ambitious card routine, others will be wanting a gun after 2 phases to blow their own head off and hope that you choke on the resultant flow of blood (or something like that).

Well, guys, at least tell me what the best way to begin and best ways to end are.

My personal opinion would be to start with some traditional ambitious card moves with going to the top of the deck, then branch out from there with whatever your creativity will allow. As a finish, I definitely recommend you look up Sankey's "Paperclipped". You can't get any more ambitious than that as an ending.
