Shuffle

Postby Magic-Ell » Mar 27th, '06, 19:57

I getting really good at card manipulation and i want a couple of cool looking shuffles like the butterfly shuffle. One that i really am having trouble with is the waterfall shuffle. I cannot do the second part where you bend the cards and they all square up. If anyone could give me any tips on really cool shuffles that would be great. Cheers :D

You're getting shuffles and cuts mixed up...

The Butterfly is a cut, and a rather difficult cut at that. Don't try to learn it until you have got some more basic flourish cuts down.

The riffle shuffle is just a knack. Some tips that I find with the waterfall finish are
  1. Make sure you have a good shuffle - that is, that the cards are almost 1x1x1x1 interwoven. If you only have two or three bricks of cards (i.e. bad shuffle) you can't do a waterfall.
  2. Don't overlap the packets too much - you only want a centimetre or two of overlap.

See the DVD in my siggy...

mid-air riffle shuffle perhaps. you can't go wrong there when you need a nice looking real shuffle!
as for cuts, i'd say SYBIL! and be done

Katriel, are you getting royalties on that DVD?

The butterfly cut involves two one handed cuts done at the same time (was going to write simultaneously but I cant spell it)
unless of course you want a more complex one handed cut of course.

Well there are many one-handed cuts. Do you mean the chariler or the 1 Handed Revolution?

If you're after a few one-handed cuts then check out this video:

One-Handed Cuts

I made this a few months ago for someone who wanted to see some examples of one-handed cuts. They aren't perfectly performed but served as a good example at the time.

with the charlier cut I personally learnt it just by watching videos of people performing it particularly on Jay Sankeys "45" dvd which shows the butterfly cut along with many other card cuts, shuffles, flourishes etc.
and pretty much once you know the techniques it's our old friend practice practice practice

The riffle and waterfall shuffle is probably the basis of most card flourishes. Most magicians and all flourishers know it. Basically, after the shuffle, bend the cards together keeping them in place with your thumbs on top of the intersection, then gently release with your fingers.

As for one handed cuts, here's my video for them This is the video I used to show magic_evmeister some of the cuts he did. (And evmeister... don't you dare comment on my thumb size again lol) If you're looking for an extremely nice one handed false cut, go for Kryptonite by Dan and Dave Buck on their System DVD. I can't do it but I would love to be able to and am practicing. My hands are too ****** small! The DVD also contains many extremely nice two handed multiple cuts. Another one handed cut shown on the DVD is the Revolution Erdnase, which is basically an Erdnase Shift but the packet revolves instead of just moving up.

False swing cut again and again for me... highly sneaky and very 'Flashy'! Check out Showoff with cards by Magic Makers inc. for good tuition on how to do it.

I personally aren't fussed either way but the more experienced magicians/members on here will have issues with Magic Makers, Inc. They are frowned upon round these parts for apparent lack of comany ethics...

Try the search function if you need anymore information.

*EDIT* CORRECTED SPELLING ERRORS

Still I quite liked the DVD and it taught me alot of stuff, personally I haven't any problem with them, but if someone can change my mind then I'm all ears...
