Crazy Mans Handcuffs....

Postby EckoZero » Apr 2nd, '06, 22:02

Ok ok I admit it.
I must be the last practicing magician in the world to know how to do this, but I just learnt it today and have spent about three hours practicing it.

Just wondering if, after you do "the move" whats the quickest and easiest way to swing the index finger and lose the other one?

Also, how can I get them to stay closer together when it's done. So I can make it seem like its melting through the other elastic band, rather than snapping through it?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Hey,

Crazy Man's Handcuffs is relatively simple to perform - there is no need to "swing" the index finger at all. When performed correctly your fingers won’t need to move position. The penetrating band does most of the work.

In regards to making them stay close together, its just practice and holding the bands correctly - press them together by pulling the bands tightly and slowly pull them apart. If done correctly this part of the illusion will really sell the effect.

I am curious to know what source you learnt CMH's from? As the problems you are having are normally covered extensively in most resources.

If you are really struggling I recommend Michael Amar’s teaching of the effect.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful, but don’t want to expose the effect. If you need more info, PM me.

I think it is just one of those things that has to be praticed alot until it looks and feels just right. play around with doing it slightly different each time and you will stumble across a way that works for you.

It's one of those things though that is very difficult to teach through written word (although Ammar and elastrix both do a fair job), but when someone teaches you in person it becomes much clearer. Even when someone shows you the effect after you know the secret - that can help a lot.

I will pm you..

Thanks for the help guys!

Simon, thanks for the PM, I PMed you back.

And I learnt it off a tutorial video thing.
It had no sound and used writing to explain the actions which is probably why I got a bit confused

Damn videos...

Thanks again for the help :D

I think it's just a knack sorta thing. This can be presented as a pk type of effect if you are into mentalism. Without giving the move away..keep your right hand cupped sorta cupped like a reverse "C"...middle finger near but not touching the first finger..

Try that..

I also like Dan Harlan's Original impromptu linking rubber bands on his Bandshark dvd..

I'll have to give that a try :D
Cheers
