Don't buy aftershave. Buy Eau de Toilet.
EDT contains much more fragrance, and is NOT designed to 'splash it all over'. Spray a bit on pulse points—below the ears, and your wrists.
Then, use a mattifying moisturiser. Dry skin leads to spots, ingrowing hairs and blemishes. Moisturise after shaving, and DO NOT put aftershave on your freshly shaved skin!
(Mrs Seige has recently done a beauty course!)
It's a common misconception that aftershave helps calm your skin after shaving. Not the case. Shaving removes dead skin, and essential moisture. To help the skin heal and re-moisturise, you should add moisturiser or shave balm.
And to get that 'chick-magnet' odour, apply EDT to pulse points, as I said.
You need less EDT too... it's fragrance lasts MUCH longer than aftershave, and by putting it away from your shaving zones, you'll have less irritation.
Putting EDT on your pulse points helps vapourise and distribute the smell. A little goes a long way, and the warmth from your pulse points will keep the fragrance more ambient rather than you having just a smelly neck!
Now you know why women rub perfume on their wrists!
