Nope, it's a different thing. It's basically a vetting thing to stop violent and sex offenders (and other unsavoury types) from working with vulnerable people. I think it covers previous investigations, whether or not they led to conviction, but I don't know the details.

It's basically a formality for most people, I'm sure, but I think it takes a few months to get vetted.

I don't know if it's absolutely necessary for entertainers working with vulnerable people, but certain organisations (schools, hospitals etc) may have a rule that it is.

The Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to advise you on whether this is likely to be necessary, and how to go about it if so. I just raised it as it may be something that a hospital or school would ask for before letting you work there. Or they may be able to ensure it's supervised to eliminate the need.

Possibly someone who works in/with these types of organisations could comment?

I work with children and vunerable adults myself. Most organisations will require you to get the check done if you are going to be working there frequently. However, is it not a legal requirement that it is completed before you start working there, as long as you are always supervised until it is completed. Obviously it is down to the organisation concerned whether or not they will allow you to do so, but most are quite understanding on this front.

As with all these things, if it may affect you don't take your advice from a stranger on a message board ... ask a lawyer.

I think this may have got a little specific for this thread, especially seeing as this is of little concern to most people, so I will leave it at that for now.
