They way I see it, it's just often thought of as more a guy type of thing. When me and my bro were younger, I think he got about 3 magic sets over the years for birthdays or christmas, whereas it's not something I was ever given.
People are more familiar with male magicians so, along with the top hat, rabbit and doves, people tend to think of magicians as being male.

Women can do magic and that what we have to show to people, they have to see that there aren´t only men... i hope you understand what i want to say.

Perhaps women just don't talk as much so we don't see as many here....

In women the part of the brain that is used to perform such tasks like slight of hand and magic is actualy pre programed to think about shoes and shopping lol

It is the same with map reading

Ok I was only joking, don't flame me!

lol!!! I laugh I laugh :P

It is my fiance that does the shopping. Lol honestly I dont get it I am such a tom boy even in my adult age! You have to DRAG me to shop and if I am forced to shop I wont spend more than 5 minutes in the store. And shoes. No way man. I buy one pair of converse shoes from the thrift shop every 3 years. The way I look at it, once the duct tape no longer holds the souls in place, I will shell out the 3 bucks to get another pair. Other than that, shoes arent a favorite of mine. Lol it is the rarity that I even wear socks.

And I am the best navigator you'll meet!! Of course, I am a much more logical female than most (I dont mean I'm smarter I just mean I am a straight forward person, a physical not emotional person). I am a math whiz. Lol the only female I know that gets excited about calculus!! Of course, this year in college was the first time I had a female math teacher it was awesome! Not only was she female she was black which was also awesome (I am Jewish so I feel the minority status especially where i live!) She was by far the most intelligent, and best math teacher I've ever had. She was insance!!!

That's the other thing I rarely see minorities in magic, other than Jews like myself I have met a few.

I think someone hit it right on the head with how its associated. Honestly I got into magic because of the magic kits I got for my birthday as a young kid. Of course I got these because my family is from Vegas but none the less I never had any female friends as kids that got them, only boys so thus the girls never had the opportunity to get into the hobby

whatup Roxy,

Just wondering if you and the other ladies could take a look at the CUPS thread here http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic9144.php&highlight=

(CUPS = Compulsory Unnecessary Purchase Syndrome - the general tendency of certain magicians to buy lots of stuff that they don't need)

In an attempt to understand and deal with this problem, I have been wondering if this is something that's more likely to affect guys, or whether girls get this problem too. I'd be very interested to hear your opinions.

lol! Brilliant!!

I used to be an economics major. I'll tell you one thing. This is generally a problem that effects men and women of every profession!! People are addicted to spending money!! It's just bad policy that's all, not a gender issue. Marketing is a part of every day life and there's a reason why its so successfull.. because people buy into it!

I happen to be Jewish and live up to the stereotype so I save every penny and dont really buy anything> ive found you can learn just about everything you need at the library

but i am the rare women as most women i know spend every penny on c*** (not the best) no one cares about lol
