A question on exercising the hand

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Nice one hahahahah. Reminds me of 'that's life' in the UK from a few years back. OK, alot of years back!

Anyone got an interesting shaped vegetable?

More back on subject, earlier on I posted a note up relating to hand exercises and musical instruments.

I have put up some details of exercises which I teach my guitar playing students to strengthen their fingers early on.

I think the Gripmaster has been recommended on more than one occasion, too.

Personally I don't like the grip master because it works the muscles in one part of the hand only. Cos I have been teaching people guitar for a few years it means I have worked out what is good for hands and what isn't so good. most grippy things only use muscles working in one direction - to my mind gripmaster has the same problem (just my opinion mind, but having tried it its a bit one dimensional).

Allens suggestions are really good, the powerballs link i give in the other forum build on those exercises and add a kind of 'weight' due to the gyroscope inside them. Allens method should be tried!

I was fiddling with a pack of cards today and I think that a good alternative is to use a pack of cards, held tightly in the palm - fingers and thumbs around the top and bottom. Spring the pack inwards slowly, hold for 5 seconds and release it slowly. Do that a few times. If you repeat it with the wrist in different positions you will work the various parts of the hand.

I also think that learning a few flourishes (check out earlier decknique link) is a great way of improving dexterity and hand power.
