Otherwise - hmmmm, the first lennart green vid/dvd, just for the pure entertainment first and foremost...for learning, its a little hard to get to grips with first couple of runs through...

As for choosing just one DVD, I wouldn't. If I only had one, I would just go out and buy more anyway.

I'd like an example of when he's used camera edits/tricks to pull off an effect.

Actually, in his live show some lucky people in the audience got a newspaper .

For me it would be Born to Perform. One of my first DVDs.

As for Derren Brown, I saw him at a recent show and although I don't think I would like to perform that style of magic I do enjoy watching it and I he has my upmost respect.

Whoa Mr Black Stone, now that's a wee bit harsh isn't it? I actually think that Darrel was saying that he was good on stage and there was a strong possibility that he wasn't using the techniques that you feel he employed in his TV show. It didn't sound like a personal attack to me, but I must say your reply does.

Personally I would say that unlike certain other TV magicians (who will remain nameless) Mr Brown wasn't using actors or camera tricks, well apart from a kind angle or two. But then that's just my opinion...

And as for editing, maybe Derren does it to be tidy and keep the show trim, but most if not a lot of what he does wouldn't really need editing. You have got to give him kudos for his policy of keeping in everything that doesn't work, though.

Also can we please not make personal remarks and insults like those from black_stone? Forum rules and regs specifically state that this sort of thing won't be tolerated and the next step is a complete exclusion from TM.

My one and only DVD that i couldn't live without is..... Actually i could live without it, but never mind......it would be Crash 2. I love the DVD and it has a lot of stuff on there that i still havent gotten down after months and months of owning the DVD! The ACR is one of my favourites routines and it isn't anywhere near as good as it could be! Suggest a better ACR DVD and i might just change my opinion, but until then, im sticking with this one!

There are no hired actors or stooges in his show. There is no camera trickery. In fact, I can't think of any trick by Derren that would be possible with camera editing. If you can prove when he uses camera editing then you can 'lose all respect'.
Everything he does is real magic in every sense of the word. He is fooling the audience with sleight of hand when he claims other methods are at work, and that is probably the greatest type of magic. When sleight of hand isn't seen thats great, when it isn't even considered as the method then you've reached nigh on perfection.

Again... Devil's Picture Book is my favourite DVD. Such card skill is unbelievable, but such skill in the subtleties of misdirection and timing is just beyond comprehension.

Well said, There are no stooges. Derren's methods are well know for some effects.
