Well I saw him last night at Ipswich with a crowd from the local society and I have to say I was extremely impressed.
I especially liked the first half, I thought that was more Derren with all the excellent psychobabel. As far as I am concerned no one does that as well as Derren. "Would you choose a Blue - no Green - Brush - no bin, No a Green - no Blue etc..." I love all that stuff.
It doesn't matter to me one jot how much of it I knew/suspected how he did and how much I didn't know. I just enjoyed the sheer showmanship of it all. As far as I am concerend it is only the magicians that would or coould work any of it out - the main audience that I wateched were (to use a common phrase) blown away.
I personally felt the second half went on a little too long with the Q&A thing, and it was nice to see it pick up pace at the end with the add a number thing and the prediction in sight at all times that we new was going to happen. I stress though that I only felt it went on too long because I wanted to see more different things. The audience lapped it all up big time and that was great to see.
There were some classic moments thrown in he Q&A - like the 12 years olds question, and the guy asking if his girlfriend was cheating on him. I'ts little moments like that that make us remember it is great entertainment.
Was it the best DB show I have seen? Not sure about that, but it was up there. The guy is a master that is for sure. I would happily watch that show all over again.
I did meet him afterwards - that was quite lucky as it happend. Three of us went to the pub afterwrds and when we were tthrown out and were walking to the car, we noticed there was still (an hour after the show) a small crowd of people at the back door. As we walked over, the last ones were leaving and DB was walking back in.
So I called him back and we had a very private natter for a few minutes as everyone else had disappeared by this point. He's a ery nice guy. He did say one thing that I thought was very interesting. He said...
[Sorry, I just remembered - he asked me not to reapeat that] :)
