Hi, I'm new to here, but I'm an amateur psychological what-not and went to see DB last night... WOW... brilliant, it was the best show I've seen yet by him... I want to share my ideas on the shows and bounce a few things off other people, but I really really don't understand the whole "secret section" thing and how anyone is meant to get into it... and I don't think people would be happy with me talking about it in here...
So, anyway.... yeh, it was amazing last night, he covered his tracks to make it the most perfect mind reading I'd ever seen.

Bananafish, you'll love the show, enjoy it.

curtains?

Postby poindexter » May 21st, '07, 13:45

First post and sorry if this is not the place, but I've done nothing but think about the show since last Monday. Trying not to give anything away for those who haven't been yet, did anyone notice if the curtains were behind or in front of the hanging box?

The curtains don't have anything to do with the box routine, in Birmingham it was genuinely on full view all night.

Yeah the box was genuinely on full view all night at Liverpool. He's either psychic or he did it while he was taking the scroll out of the box - which is probably more impressive than him being psychic! :-)

Well I saw him last night at Ipswich with a crowd from the local society and I have to say I was extremely impressed.

I especially liked the first half, I thought that was more Derren with all the excellent psychobabel. As far as I am concerned no one does that as well as Derren. "Would you choose a Blue - no Green - Brush - no bin, No a Green - no Blue etc..." I love all that stuff.

It doesn't matter to me one jot how much of it I knew/suspected how he did and how much I didn't know. I just enjoyed the sheer showmanship of it all. As far as I am concerend it is only the magicians that would or coould work any of it out - the main audience that I wateched were (to use a common phrase) blown away.

I personally felt the second half went on a little too long with the Q&A thing, and it was nice to see it pick up pace at the end with the add a number thing and the prediction in sight at all times that we new was going to happen. I stress though that I only felt it went on too long because I wanted to see more different things. The audience lapped it all up big time and that was great to see.

There were some classic moments thrown in he Q&A - like the 12 years olds question, and the guy asking if his girlfriend was cheating on him. I'ts little moments like that that make us remember it is great entertainment.

Was it the best DB show I have seen? Not sure about that, but it was up there. The guy is a master that is for sure. I would happily watch that show all over again.

I did meet him afterwards - that was quite lucky as it happend. Three of us went to the pub afterwrds and when we were tthrown out and were walking to the car, we noticed there was still (an hour after the show) a small crowd of people at the back door. As we walked over, the last ones were leaving and DB was walking back in.

So I called him back and we had a very private natter for a few minutes as everyone else had disappeared by this point. He's a ery nice guy. He did say one thing that I thought was very interesting. He said...

[Sorry, I just remembered - he asked me not to reapeat that] :)

YES! what did he say!!!
Probably concerning the second half... which since I went last Saturday, I've worked most of it out and can appreciate the whole presentation of the trick even more than before, it was very well done. I agree with the above now, I prefer the first half because of the psychological tricks and variety, although the second half was brilliantly well run and was great to watch.......
P.S, what did he say?

We had great seats downstairs and quite close up to the stage. We all very much enjoyed the show, especially the opening sequences with the screen projections, etc.

I thought the Q and A was great, especially when he left the envelopes and just started calling out random people and divining their concerns: weight loss, phobic kids, teeth repairs, etc, followed by a bit of pseudo-psychometry. It was all vey well done.

I was also amazed at the willingness of the audience to march up onto the stage. The bank note serial number effect was very nicely done and with great cooperation from his participant.

All round, superb entertainment.
