hi everyone, this is my first post on here so i hope i dont do / say the wrong thing, but i have noticed the ' no stooges' line with regard to derren brown, this is a big ? in my opinion.

i was lucky enough to see his resent tour 3 times, and guess what i noticed a comon occurance, (which I'm not telling) but if anyone else saw something wicked live, i'd be interested to here if it was true of your show too.

i use NLP in my act, which i do for fun (no money) in bars and such, but like derren its a front, a third hand if you will, to distract and explain a trick, without telling the secret, also social condisioning is relied heavily upon, watch the real hussle on bbc3, con men use it all the time. dont get me wrong sometimes it works if i said 'close your eyes and picture a playing card' chances are you will think of a 'picture card', some of it is slieght of hand, and some of it is ..........

again hopefully this doesnt break any rules, and i look forward to posting in the future

Thanks for your input and for not being too explicit! Before long you'll get posts suggesting you nip over to the Intro section and tell us more about yourself so we look forward to that  !

Always better not to be too explicit, but I fear this is so unexplicit that it's impossible to know where to start. You don't mean the phone ring thing, do you? I think that was played through the PA - too good a gag to miss, and you'd want it to happen in the right place. Not a stooge (and not magic), but, um, 'a planned event'.

Actually, he used the gag again in Birmingham on Tuesday. I know at least two other people here were at that show. Did you think that, this time, it was a genuine audience member's phone? It occurred at an unfortunate point, actual irritation appeared to ghost across DB's face for a second, and then he seemed to remember - 'Ah, yes - I could do that line.' Got a huge laugh, as always.

Trick or Treat 4 May - Piano, Simon Callow, Psychic Waiter

I though the piano thing was interesting but odd, in that we were led up the garden path until the last minute but I guess it was legit because the same happened to the girl. An amazing demonstration of post-hypnotic amnesia in that she forgot something that she had spent so much of her life doing.

Simon Callow - I thought this was weak. The pair had clearly been chatting for a while but we only saw the last minutes.

Psychic waiter - amazing. I fear this bit will get completely overlooked but what a cracking display of CR.

Psychic waiter was superb. The bloke didn't seem that amazed, more offended that he's mentioned a driving offence!
The Simon Callow scene, well, I got the word 'road' as well, so maybe there is some coercion going on but I liked the presentation.

It was nice - just a shame it was somewhat spoiled by the fact that Derren and co. didn't check that he needed to wear reading glasses beforehand!

I think the lay audience might have felt slightly cheated by it. Shame, because making someone forget (for two full weeks) that they are an accomplished pianist who's played since they were a small child is big, but believing that you were witnessing something even bigger sort of made it anti-climatic. Actually, it might improve for many people on a second viewing. I got what he was doing right from the off - partly because the bluffed premise was utterly impossible (it wouldn't be Trick of Treat, it'd be Joe 90), but also because almost his very first words to her were something like, 'I'm going to make you forget everything you think you know.' I think, on a second viewing, there'd be a deal of satisfying nodding from the viewer; 'Ah, yes. I see the careful wording, DB, now we're in on the con too.'

Also - spookily, because I'd guess the method was more practical - I also thought of 'road' (and not the homonym 'rode', even) in the picture segment too.

Hmm, I went for rote as he was an actor. But I agree, I think the method was more "physical" too.

I loved the main event this week...i found it all very touching if im honest...

imagine being given the gift of getting the buzz/fun/joy out of something you were obviously good, but had become jaded with and it's all lost its sheen...

real magic as far as im concerned...superb...

I have to also say that this is the fiest episode of this seies I have really enjoyed especially in regards to the Trick or Treat.
The piano thing was not only a fascinating piece orf entertainment with a great twist but also a wonderful thing to do. Derren must have felt very satisfied with bringing back someones love, someones art.....great!

This one was good because usually the viewers are 'in' on the Trick/Treat. This time we were all kept in the dark and only found out at the same time as the subject did.

Yup I got Road too, a nice little method if he was doing what I think he was doing. I mighht try it out myself if I can find the right setting.

The piano was very clever and well timed too, after the episode after teaching the woman poker.

Trick or Treat 12 May 2007

- Sending a guy temporarily insane
- Bankers counting sweets

Can't remember the 3rd one.

The insane thing was just odd.

The bankers counting the sweets thing was strange. The load passed me by completely and how the average came to the right number is a mystery. Nice one Derren.

i thought that was the more obvious one. if you have a watch of Banachek's PSI series there's a couple of ideas on it.

i liked how he just casually exposed the ambigramness of his cards, just incase you hadn't clocked on before. one of the very lovely elements of mr browns shows, letting the audience feel inteligent by managing to work out how things are done, even though it's usually wrong. good stuff though.
